Business Overview
Rakuten focuses on expanding Rakuten Symphony business that provides to global customers our fully virtualized cloud native mobile network established in Japan, in addition to operating mobile network business, which is the key strategic area of the Rakuten group. We are hiring new members that supports intellectual property activities in our mobile network operator business and Rakuten Symphony business.

Department Overview
The Rakuten Mobile business is actively promoting global business and development activities in Japan and overseas. We have many intellectual property teams outside of Japan and are developing an intellectual property organization consisting of multi-national members. Intellectual Property members are rapidly expanding along with the business growth, communicating with company executives, who have high intellectual property awareness. We are also frequently presenting IP update at Asakai, which is a company-wide conference that all employees join. Please join Intellectual Property Dept. of the company that disrupt the tradition and establish new and original intellectual property activities at the battlefront of mobile communications.

We are now in the midst of establishing intellectual property activities at Rakuten's mobile business and Rakuten Symphony business from scratch. It would be once-in-a-lifetime experience, even if you are in the intellectual property field for long. Most members were hired mid-career. Some newly grads. Mid-career members are from intellectual property depts of private companies, patent law firms, intellectual property research companies, etc.

Position
Why We Hire
We plan to hire a talented person, since we come to understand that it is needed to further reinforce our patent filing and prosecution function.

We are now in the midst of establishing intellectual property activities at Rakuten's mobile business and Rakuten Symphony business from scratch. It would be once-in-a-lifetime experience, even if you are in the intellectual property field for long.

Position Details

• Standards essential patent activities (3GPP and O-RAN Alliance)
• Construct intellectual property portfolio in the fields of the mobile communications network and mobile terminals (mainly patents). In particular, extract inventions from development activities for patent filing and prosecution
• Patent analysis in licensing activities
• Intellectual property clearance in the above fields
• Contract review and licensing in the above fields
• Formulate intellectual property strategy
• We have many intellectual property activities related to foreign subsidiaries
• Often use English in internal and external meetings.

Work Environment
Intellectual Property Strategy Section, Strategic Business Compliance Support Dept., Rakuten Group, Inc.

Most members were hired mid-career. Some newly grads.

Mid-career members are from intellectual property depts of private companies, patent law firms, intellectual property research companies, etc.

Mandatory Qualifications

• Experience in Patent Filing and Prosecution
• TOEIC score 600 (or higher) equivalent

Desired Qualifications

• Experience in patent filing and prosecution or copyright protection in the field of server virtualization or network virtualization
• Engineer experience in telecommunications networks or mobile terminals
• Experience in intellectual property clearance
• Experience in intellectual property contracts or licensing
• Qualified lawyer/patent attorney/patent agent
• Certified Specialist of Intellectual Property Management (1st grade)
• TOEIC score 800 (or higher) equivalent
• Business-level English (A speaking and listening comprehension is disirable.)
• Experience living in an English-speaking country. Results of TOEFL, IELTS, EIKEN, etc. are preferred.
• Business-level Japanese

Additional Information On Secondment
Although hired by Rakuten Group, Inc., there is a chance to be seconded to Rakuten Mobile, Inc. or Rakuten Symphony, Inc. No changes in your pay slip and location.

There is possibility of domestic business trips and overseas business trips and transfer.
