About the role

Our client is seeking a senior
EPC Director
to lead all technical, commercial, and execution aspects of EPC delivery for a growing portfolio of
utility‑scale solar PV and BESS projects
across Japan. Reporting into the executive leadership team, this role will be responsible for ensuring projects are delivered
safely, on time, on budget, and to the highest engineering and quality standards
, while shaping EPC strategy and managing key contractor and supplier relationships.

Responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end
  EPC delivery
  for utility‑scale
  solar PV and BESS
  projects, from design and procurement through construction, commissioning, and handover.
• Own engineering oversight, constructability reviews, and design optimization while ensuring full compliance with
  Japanese regulations, permitting, safety, and grid interconnection requirements
  .
• Manage EPC tendering and contracting, including RFP development, bid evaluation, negotiations, and awards.
• Oversee EPC contractor and supplier performance to ensure delivery against
  cost, schedule, quality, and technical requirements
  .
• Lead EPC commercial and contract negotiations, ensuring clear risk allocation and enforceable deliverables.
• Drive project
  budgeting, scheduling, risk management, and reporting
  , proactively mitigating delivery risks.
• Build, mentor, and scale a high‑performing project delivery and engineering team.
• Collaborate closely with Development, Finance, Legal, and Asset Management teams, and support technical due diligence for new opportunities.

Qualifications

Required

• 10+ years of EPC or construction management experience within
  solar, BESS, or energy infrastructure
  projects in Japan.
• Demonstrated experience working with
  Japanese EPC contractors
  and local supply chains.
• Strong understanding of
  EPC contract structures
  with proven commercial and negotiation capability.
• Experience managing
  large‑scale project budgets, schedules, and delivery risk
  .
• Proven leadership experience, including team management and mentoring.
• Fluent Japanese
  with
  business‑level English
  proficiency.

Preferred

• Experience across both
  solar PV and BESS
  projects.
• Engineering degree in
  Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering
  .
• Knowledge of
  METI guidelines
  and utility interconnection processes.
• Experience working with
  international IPPs, developers, or institutional investors
  .
