As the only division at Rakuten Group responsible for company-wide, cross-functional initiatives based on overall corporate strategy, it offers opportunities to develop a broad strategic perspective while engaging in high-level planning and execution.
We are seeking a UI Designer to create engaging and emotionally resonant experiences across Rakuten services and products.
UI Designers at Rakuten are responsible not only for visual refinement but also for translating product goals and strategies into clear visual expressions.
Position Details
Create UI designs for products and services within the Rakuten Ecosystem
Propose and implement UI improvements based on hypotheses addressing customer and business issues
Create visual design, tone, and stylistic direction for each service
Produce concept art, key visuals, and various creative assets
Design and specify motion design and micro-animations
Build prototypes to support team discussions and validation
Create illustrations, pictograms, and graphics for web and app screens
Produce creatives for marketing and promotional initiatives
Promote design expression and process innovation using technologies such as generative AI
Work Environment
Expected Assignment:
Platform Strategy Supervisory Department → Customer Strategy Department → Experience Section
The Platform Strategy Supervisory Department has approximately 60 members, balanced gender ratio, average age in the mid-30s
Many members joined mid-career, and the division welcomes diverse backgrounds such as consulting, IT, platform companies, venture companies, telecommunications, and content operations
The Experience Section consists of approximately 15 members (Web Directors, UX Designers, UI Designers, Front-end Engineers), with similar demographics

Required Skills And Experience
3+ years of UI design experience for web, mobile, or app environments
Ability to propose and execute design solutions for problem-solving
Proficiency with UI design and prototyping tools (Figma, Adobe XD, etc.)
Experience in motion design or micro-interactions
Business-level Japanese
Desired Qualifications
Knowledge of persona development or customer journey analysis
Familiarity with Material Design, HIG, or similar guidelines
Knowledge or experience in motion graphics or animation
Basic understanding or practical experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript
Knowledge or experience in DTP or print design
Experience producing creatives for marketing or branding purposes
Motivation to expand design expression with new tools and technologies
