Role Description:


We are recruiting highly motivated, flexible and customer-oriented EFL teachers to teach kindergarten, elementary school students or junior high school or high school students at our Iidabashi or Musashi-Kosugi Teaching Centres.

Accountabilities:


The role involves in supporting the British Council's global English strategy by delivering high-quality English language teaching that meets both learner needs and organisational standards. 
We are also looking for passionate educators committed to continuous professional development and sharing best practices with peers. 
In this role, you'll be expected to complete administrative tasks efficiently, while building and maintaining strong relationships with students, colleagues, and other stakeholders 

Qualifications & Experience

Essentials

  • Bachelor's degree (in any discipline),
  • Cambridge CELTA or Trinity certificate, TESOL
  • High proficiency in English, i.e. full mastery of English across all 4 skills equivalent to user (CEFR C2) IELTS Band 8 or 9 in each of the four sections of the academic module.
  • 2 years post-certificate experience (or equivalent to 1,200 hours).Experience teaching in one or several of the following age groups:
  • Early Years aged 3 to hours)
  • Primary aged 6 to hours)
  • Lower Secondary aged 11 to hours)
  • Upper Secondary aged 15 to hours)
  • Desirables

  • TYLEC, YL extension to CELTA, PGCE or equivalent CELTA Pass A/B
  • Cambridge DELTA/Trinity Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience teaching phonics
  • Important Information:

  • Salary: 4,484 yen/hour for teachers with a CELTA or equivalent; 4,993 yen/hour for teachers with a DELTA or equivalent. (Payment for preparation for lessons and marking is included in the hourly rate and will not be paid separately)
  • Location: Tokyo, Japan
  • Start date: Tentative April 2026 (depending on business requirements and PAS completion process)
  • Duration: 12-month contract
  • Contract type: Fixed-term
  • Work Schedule: Classes are available at various times, both weekdays and weekends. 
  • Right to work: Candidate must have a pre-existing right to work in Japan. These roles are only open to applicants who currently have permission to live and work in Japan. Please note that if your current working visa is under the 'Other' category (e.g. Professor, Instructor, Artist) you will need to apply for permission to work under the category (Engineer / Specialist in Humanities / International Services). Visa sponsorship is not provided
