Org. Setting and Reporting Created in December 1999, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) is the designated focal point in the United Nations system for the coordination of efforts to reduce disasters and to ensure synergies among the disaster reduction activities of the United Nations and regional organizations and activities in both developed and less developed countries. Led by the United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction (SRSG), UNDRR has over 150 staff located in its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, and in regional offices. Specifically, UNDRR guides, monitors, analyses and reports on progress in the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction , supports regional and national implementation of the Framework and catalyses action and increases global awareness to reduce disaster risk working with U.N. Member States and a broad range of partners and stakeholders, including civil society, the private sector, parliamentarians and the science and technology community. This internship is located in the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) Kobe Office, and the Intern reports to the Head of UNDRR Kobe Office. The internship is remote for a period of three to six months. The internship is UNPAID and part time. Interns work two-three days per week (approx. 20 hours per week) under the supervision of a staff member to which they are assigned. The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) Kobe Office, located in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, works closely with the Japanese Government and other institutions that have extensive experience and expertise in disaster risk reduction (DRR) to support other partners around the world to reduce disaster risk and build resilience. The UNDRR Kobe Office plays a key role in advancing multiple global disaster risk reduction initiatives. The International Recovery Platform (IRP) is a joint initiative of United Nations organizations, international financial institutions, national and local governments, and non-governmental organizations engaged in disaster recovery, and seeking to transform disasters into opportunities for sustainable development. IRP supports progress with Priority 4 of the Sendai Framework by facilitating dialogue between senior policymakers and recovery planners, enabling strategic cooperation among recovery actors, promoting the uptake of knowledge and lessons learned, and building capacity. The UNDRR Kobe Office manages the Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) Online Platform. The SFVC online platform serves as a mechanism to mobilize, monitor and take stock of commitments from multi-stakeholders for the implementation of the Sendai Framework until 2030. The platform incentivizes stakeholders to inform the public about their work, to provide a vehicle for sharing commitments and initiatives and for motivation toward the implementation of the Sendai Framework. In turn, UNDRR can monitor and take stock of the progress and impact. Responsibilities Duties may include, but are not limited to: Provide support to policy development and preparing written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analytical notes, sections of reports, presentations, meeting minutes, and talking points related to resilient recovery, recovery readiness, the Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments areas of work, and technology for disaster risk reduction. Support organization of meetings and workshops, side events, including support for logistics, drafting concept notes, and preparing speakers. Assist in systematizing and analyzing information on disaster risk reduction, resilient recovery, and recovery readiness. Support the review, research and analysis of voluntary commitments by stakeholders. Contribute to reviewing and analyzing emerging trends and issues related to resilient recovery, disaster risk reduction and stakeholders' contributions to the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. Support content management for the IRP and SFVC websites, mailing lists, social media, and other relevant channels. Support communication related work conducted by the Kobe Office, including "Making Cities Resilient 2030", "International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction", "World Tsunami Awareness Day", "Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments" and "International Recovery Platform". Provide ad hoc support to other UNDRR partner and stakeholder work.

Qualifications/special Skills
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English is required for this internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
