Business Overview: The Technology Platforms Division (TPD) is in charge of building and operating the infrastructure and ecosystem platforms that empower the Rakuten Group. The primary goal is to offer Rakuten Cloud and Ecosystem Platforms to drive Core Value and boost the growth of Rakuten Group services.
Department Overview: The Incentive Platform Department (INPD) focuses on providing incentive and payment solutions to support Rakuten's global businesses. The platforms continuously enhance capabilities and scale to accelerate synergies within the Rakuten ecosystem. One significant area is the Point Service Section, responsible for developing and running incentive services like PointClub, renowned for its popularity in Japan, based on the Rakuten Platform (Point, Coupon, etc.). The main mission is to elevate the Rakuten ecosystem's value and support its businesses through these incentive services.
Overall Position Details: We are seeking talented engineers for web front and backend development who are capable of designing, delivering, and troubleshooting web applications with multiple components in various technologies. As a tech lead, you will participate in daily huddles, collaborate with product and project managers, lead team members in application design and development, and take charge of ensuring the quality, delivery, and reliability of services while striving for continuous improvement in systems and processes. Additionally, you will serve as a mentor to fellow engineers.
Your responsibilities include:
- Lead the front and backend development of Rakuten Point-related systems.
- Develop applications from design to release, including coding, code review, and testing.
- Enhance existing design and features.
- Introduce new architecture, design scalable systems, and refactor when necessary.
- Drive enhancements to the development environment (e.g., CI/CD, test automation).
- Create, maintain, and update documentation.
- Provide on-call support for production, troubleshoot issues, and assist other developers.
Mandatory Qualifications:
- Java development expertise (minimum 8 years)
- Proficiency in agile development (scrum, kanban)
- Hands-on experience with relational databases (e.g., MySQL, Oracle, ProxySQL)
- Leadership experience in a development team (minimum 3 years)
Desired Qualifications:
- MS or Ph.D. in Computer Science or related field
- Experience in Kotlin and PHP development
- Design and development experience with high-traffic systems
- Proficiency in CI/CD, test automation, and Containers (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, Istio)
- Experience in application deployment and operation (on-premises and in Public cloud environments)
- Development background with modern JavaScript frameworks (e.g., Angular, React, Webpack), JavaScript, NGINX Apache Tomcat
- Familiarity with Non-SQL development (e.g., Couchbase) and KVS systems
- Knowledge of messaging platforms (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ)
- Performance tuning expertise
- Proficiency with JIRA/Confluence
- Experience collaborating with global, cross-cultural teams across different locations
