ACCOUNTING MANAGER - JAPAN
This role reports directly to the Asia Pacific Finance and Accounting Manager and oversees all accounting operations for Japan, ensuring compliance with local statutory requirements and Group policies.
Responsible for financial reporting, internal controls, and supporting business decisions with accurate and timely financial data
Manage the full spectrum of accounting operations for Japan, ensuring compliance with local statutory requirements and Group policies
Oversee all accounting functions, including month-end and year-end closing for accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, and other relevant ledgers
Formulate and implement accounting policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness, working closely with the GRC team to address control points
Ensure timely and accurate submission of all reporting requirements and provide operational support and guidance to internal teams
Lead balance sheet reviews, drive completion of general ledger reconciliations, and resolve aged items promptly
Ensure adequate insurance coverage for the company (excluding medical insurance)
Manage intercompany functions, including contracts, reconciliations, and group reporting requirements
Ensure compliance with credit policy, manage credit risks, conduct periodic reviews, and recommend appropriate risk management approaches for customers
Set up bank guarantees and credit insurance, resolve credit issues, and coordinate with relevant parties on outstanding invoices
Lead local credit committee meetings and support requests from area and headquarters regarding credit management
Support tax and discretionary cashflow budgeting processes
Lead external audits and support the timely submission of tax returns, collaborating with external consultants and the regional tax team
Oversee relationships with corporate secretary, auditors, tax advisors, and other external parties
Drive simplification and continuous process improvement within the accounting function
Supervise and develop junior accounting staff, fostering a culture of learning and collaboration
Participate in ad-hoc projects and respond to requests from the Region and / or headquarters
Requirements
University degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA Japan or equivalent preferred)
Strong accounting experience, ideally in a Multinational Companies or Audit Firms (Big4 environment)
Strong knowledge of J-GAAP, IFRS, and local tax regulations
Strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills
Proficiency in SAP4HANA and Microsoft Excel is required
Exposure to sustainability initiatives in supply chain (e.g., green logistics, waste reduction) is desirable
Proficiency with MS Office tools, experience with SAP (ECC/APO), Power BI, and supply chain planning tools
Good cross-functional collaboration, internal and external partnership and stakeholder management skills
Fluency in Japanese and business level English is requested
