Are you ready to make your mark as our Researcher in our Tokyo office? As the Researcher, you will be part of the Global Practice Solutions Team, supporting lawyers and staff across the Asia Pacific region and the firm's global network.
Your main responsibilities include providing research, market intelligence, and information services, as well as developing, organising, and sharing knowledge resources to meet the needs of practice groups.
Collaboration is key in this role, as you will work closely with the Manager, Research & Market Intelligence – APAC, global research colleagues, and Professional Support Lawyers.
You will act as a source of legal, market, and practical expertise, providing direct support for client matters and helping lawyers access the latest insights and resources.
The Global Practice Solutions Department comprises Research & Market Intelligence, Professional Support, Business Intelligence, and Practice Technology.The team uses information management, research, training, and technical solutions to help lawyers work efficiently and collaboratively, ensuring the firm's shared knowledge is leveraged for client benefit.

Key ResponsibilitiesProvide research services—including case legal research, company searches, and market intelligence—to legal staff and administrative departments locally and globally.
Manage and monitor research requests using the Request Management System, collaborating with global Researchers and helping triage and prioritize inquiries.
Utilize a range of fee-based, print, and online resources efficiently and cost-effectively for research tasks.Prepare and distribute practice-specific news alerts, regulatory updates, and current awareness newsletters.
Conduct company searches, maintain corporate search accounts, and research deal information to support M&A practices.
Monitor and report on legal, business, industry, regulatory, and regional news, creating alerts and newsletters as requested.
Organize and deliver training and orientation on research tools and knowledge management systems, and mentor trainees, associates, and students in research techniques.
Foster relationships with local vendors and assist with acquisitions and access to local resources.The skills and attributes we are looking for
3–5 years of in-depth research experience, ideally in a global law firm or court environment
Open to candidates from outside the legal industry, including lawyers who no longer wish to practice but have an interest in research
Native Japanese language skills with fluent business English.
Strong knowledge of Bengoshi law research; familiarity with English law and other Asian jurisdictions is a plus.
Experience in market intelligence research advantageous.
Expertise in legal and non-legal research resources, including search methodologies.
In-depth understanding of market and industry research in areas such as M&A, Project Finance, Debt Finance, Investment Funds, and Commercial Litigation.
Excellent planning, time management, multitasking, and independent work skills.High attention to detail, accuracy, and productivity in a fast-paced, team-oriented, multi-office environment.
Incorporates Generative AI into daily work as appropriate and trains or advises lawyers and others on Generative AI services
Strong communication skills, client service focus, and the ability to work autonomously and flexibly.
