Infrastructure Services Department (INSD)'s mission is to build the private cloud to host internal applications, hosted globally. Ongoing initiative and growing and maturing as new requests come.
We build and operate robust infrastructure platforms that empower Rakuten's businesses around the world. We are based in Japan, India, US, and EU, and we have over 400 members from various regions to accelerate the Rakuten ecosystem.
To sustain the rapid growth and usage, a robust network infrastructure needs to be in place to support the increasing demands of mission-critical applications. We are seeking a highly motivated and team-oriented engineer who is passionate about immersing themselves in various network technologies to automate and improve the network integration of our global infrastructure platform.

Position Details
- Be in charge of designing, verifying, implementing, and operating existing and future backbone network infrastructure.
- Provide internal users with day-to-day operations of Rakuten's backbone network and data center networking by utilizing automation tools to leverage open-source software and programming.
- Drive automation development within the platform to increase network operation efficiency and minimize operational resources.
- Contribute to reviewing network configurations and architectures (design) on existing and new data center build-outs.
- Run POCs of new products/technologies for our next-generation network.
- Work on building and maintaining physical infrastructure and network-related documentation.
- Be responsible for capacity management for internet transit/IX and DCI.
- Contribute to on-call support of network operations for existing backbone networks and upper-tier level escalations.
Work Environment
Team structure:
1 senior manager
2 managers and 1 vice manager.
15 members in Japan office and 9 members in India office.
Most of the members joined as mid-career entries.
Based in Japan, India, US, and EU, members from various countries and regions work and communicate mainly in English.
Our team operates L2/L3 network devices mainly, and we can get the opportunity to work on load balancers and servers as well.

Mandatory Qualifications:
- Full technical knowledge, configure, and implementation of Dynamic Routing Protocol OSPF/BGP/MPLS/VXLAN/SRv6 in backbone networking and data center networking.
- Full technical knowledge, configure, and implementation of Layer 2 technology such as TRILL and Multi-Chassis Link-Aggregation.
- Understand basic knowledge of Firewall, Load Balancer, and DNS architecture and technologies.
- Work experience in DevOps environments with Ansible/Jenkins/Git.
- Not only network admin-related roles, but also approximately 5 years of operation experience and good at troubleshooting in Linux/Unix Operation Systems.
- Proactive mindset with a self-starter attitude in finding and identifying possible network issues and coming up with proposals for resolution.
- Quick learner in new technologies and upcoming trends.
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineer, or similar.
- Experience of Network Management by utilizing open-source software programming.
- Experience of development and implementing automation scripts in one or more of the following: Python, Ruby, Perl, Bash, and other programming languages.
- Experience of Linux/Unix server development and administration.
- Basic knowledge and have deployment experience of public cloud (AWS/Azure/GCP).
- Ability to work in an international-oriented environment interacting with global team members all over the world.
- A DevOps and Agile mindset when deploying and creating tools.
