Role overview:
Our team specializes in merger arbitrage investing. We conduct complex legal analysis, evaluate intricate regulatory rules and regulations, and evaluate real-time, shifting merger dynamics, while de-emphasizing fundamental valuation, to find alpha in places where traditional fundamental investors do not. We do research with the understanding that there is always another layer of the onion to peel.
We seek to become subject matter experts based in Tokyo to be on a constantly changing coverage of companies as well as unique legal and regulatory processes. He/she will be heavily involved in analysis of corporate transactions and finding related investment opportunities.
Responsibilities:
· Conducting deep research, primary research, and engage in other data collection efforts
· Owning and maintaining documentation include deal notes and deal coverage
· Analyzing complex contracts and learning about antitrust and other regulatory processes
· Monitoring markets and learning about portfolio construction and risk management
· Developing relationships with management teams
· Attending corporate access meetings and research events, including a significant travel component
· Taking on ad-hoc industry related projects
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
· Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, law or a similar field
· Minimum 3 years of working experience within the law, finance or related fields
· Ability to communicate effectively; excellent reading comprehension and writing skills; strong mental math skills
· Ability to read documents and communicate in Japanese and English fluently
· Experience dealing directly with corporate transactions would be preferred
· High levels of creativity, idea generation and quick problem solving capabilities
· Passion for financial markets
· Python programming/data science skills are a plus
