IPA Technical Liaison Specialist PSBU

We are looking for a talented IPA Technical Liaison Specialist PSBU to join us in Tokyo, Japan.
This will be following a hybrid work model.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
Description
l This product-focused position performs established technical tasks at the sub-system and/or component level for current and future products within a given business unit or corporate area. This involves work across many steps in the product life cycle. Because of the product-centered nature of this position, they are very often a central point of coordination and decision-making between product line engineers, customer teams, systems engineers, purchasing, suppliers, and manufacturing.
l Obtains input from stakeholders such as technical managers, project leaders, other product and manufacturing engineers, and supplier partners to deliver information and recommendations that lead to quality product decisions.
l Applies academic knowledge and existing experience to take action and make decisions that progress projects forward without sacrificing project quality expectations. Examples of these decisions include day-to-day project details, analysis or test work instruction details, coordination across discipline areas that are necessary to make quality progress.
l Applies and improves processes such as Engineering Standard Work (ESW), iDFMEA, Failure Incident Review Group (FIRG), and tools such as 7-step problem-solving, design review checklist, and other specialized tools required to support the processes and enable high-quality decision-making.
l Provides independent leadership of smaller business-impact projects or ownership of complex components, products, systems, or services with greater elements of ambiguity over the senior or lead engineer level and with full accountability to the project team.
l Delivers independent execution of established and emerging work processes and systems, while still developing technology or product knowledge.
l Leads the development and improvement of work processes and systems across a functional discipline area within a business unit site.
l Coordinates and directs work amongst technicians and temporary student employees, assists in the transfer of knowledge to lesser-experienced engineers through either indirect (scope of influence) or direct management of a small, local group of engineers.
l Provides support and guidance to influence technical direction within a project team and continues to develop proficiency in the competency areas critical to success in the role.
l Operates as a recognized specialist in a discipline or product area within the immediate team.
QUALIFICATIONS
To be successful in this role, you will need the following:
l Product Development Execution, Monitoring, and Control - Plans, schedules, coordinates, and executes the activities involved in developing a product to a respectively aligned hierarchy of requirements and technical profiles; monitors and communicates across functional boundaries to meet project resource and quality expectations; ensures product capability meets or exceeds expectations and takes mitigating actions when project risks are higher than expected; understands the full product life cycle process and stakeholders.
l Product Failure Mode Avoidance - Mitigates potential product failure modes, by identifying interfaces, functions, functional requirements, interactions, control factors, noise factors, and prioritized potential failure modes and potential failure causes for the system of interest to effectively and efficiently improve the reliability of Cummins products.
l Product Problem Solving - Solves product problems using a process that protects the customer; determines the assignable cause; implements robust, data-based solutions; and identifies the systemic root causes and recommended actions to prevent problem reoccurrence.
l Product Verification and Validation Management - Develops product systems validation plans from a variety of inputs to identify failure modes, while managing product risk and relative priority; negotiates product requirements against capability to guide project scope; evaluates analytical, simulation, and physical test results to verify product capability and validate requirements; assesses legacy versus proposed system solution capabilities and produces recommendations with technical documentation to support product decisions.
l Technical Documentation - Documents information based on knowledge gained as part of technical function activities; communicates to stakeholders with the goal of enabling improved technical productivity and effective knowledge transfer to others who were not originally part of the initial learning.
l Builds networks - Effectively building formal and informal relationship networks inside and outside the organization.
l Communicates effectively - Developing and delivering multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences.

l Product Interface Management and Integration - Identifies and analyzes the interfaces and interactions across system boundaries by specifying the requirements and limits to ensure that the product meets requirements; controls the interactions across the system element boundaries by making sure that they remain within specified limits; integrates system elements by creating an integration plan, including identification of method and timing for each activity to make it easier to find, isolate, diagnose, and correct.
l System Requirements Engineering - Uses appropriate methods and tools to translate stakeholder needs into verifiable requirements to which designs are developed; establishes acceptance criteria for the system of interest through analysis, allocation, and negotiation; tracks the status of requirements throughout the system lifecycle; assesses the impact of changes to system requirements on project scope, schedule, and resources; creates and maintains information linkages to related artifacts.
l Product Function Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis - Impacts product design decisions through the utilization and/or interpretation of computational tools and methods that predict the capability of a product's function relative to its system, sub-system, and/or component level requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
l College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field is required.
l Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles.
l This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
l Prior Senior or Lead Engineer equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is required with a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving and quality decision making. Knowledge of MS Office tools is preferred.
l Provide support and representation for the PSBU Engineering CPS/VPI project teams in a technical liaison sense, by obtaining relevant input and conveying the appropriate message to the IPA teams.
l Coordinate regular meetings between CMI and IPA teams to drive effective discussions and problem resolution strategies. This may include future and current product projects.
l Support Cummins/IPA CoCom process through applicable steering committees (Technical Steering and Mining Steering primarily)
l Interface with the various Cummins functional areas and provide the support required by identifying and interacting with the relevant Cummins component / area experts.
l Understand / learn the cultural nuances and work within those boundaries to have effective collaborations.
l Provide support to the CMI component groups and the IPA groups, as needed.
l Participate in identifying opportunities to enhance the overall relationship between JV and Cummins. Lead activities or participate in the effort of defining, reviewing, and implementing these opportunities.
