Position:  Grade 11-12 Learning Leader & DP Coordinator (to begin August 2026)

Position Overview

The Grade 11–12 Learning Leader & DP Coordinator provides pedagogical leadership for the final two years of High School, ensuring excellence in teaching, learning, and assessment across all subject areas. This role is responsible for the effective implementation of the IB Diploma Programme (DP) as well as the overall quality of the academic experience in Grades 11–12.

Working in close partnership with Heads of Department—the pedagogical leaders of their respective subject areas—the Learning Leader guides faculty in delivering engaging, rigorous, and inclusive learning experiences that meet the diverse needs of all students.

This role requires close collaboration with other members of the High School Leadership Team and faculty to ensure that the IB Diploma Programme functions effectively alongside complementary offerings (ie, alternative pathways to graduation). The Learning Leader ensures that students taking individual IB courses rather than the full Diploma are appropriately challenged, supported, and valued within CA's broader academic landscape.

The Learning Leader is a key member of the High School Leadership Team, working collaboratively with the Principal, Vice Principal, Counselors, and the Learning Leader/MYP Coordinator. In addition to leadership responsibilities, the role includes approximately 40% teaching in a subject area to be determined.

Key Responsibilities

Pedagogical and Programme Leadership

  • Provide academic leadership for Grades 11–12, ensuring high standards of teaching, learning, and assessment across all IB Diploma Programme courses.
  • Lead the ongoing development of effective pedagogy, collaborative planning, and reflective practice among all teachers of Grades 11–12.
  • Partner with Heads of Department to support their leadership of subject-specific pedagogy, curriculum alignment, and assessment design.
  • Foster a culture of instructional excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement grounded in CA's Guiding Statements and the IB's Approaches to Teaching and Learning.
  • Oversee the implementation and integrity of the IB DP, ensuring full compliance with IBO policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Lead the DP self-study, evaluation, and five-year review processes.
  • Collaborate with PYP and MYP Coordinators to ensure a coherent PK–12 continuum of learning.

Teaching and Learning

  • Use achievement and progress data to monitor student learning and inform instructional decisions.
  • Coordinate moderation and standardization processes to promote consistency and fairness in assessment.
  • Develop and communicate the Grades 11–12 assessment calendar, balancing academic rigor and student well-being.
  • Support faculty in implementing effective formative and summative assessment practices.
  • Facilitate professional learning and cross-department collaboration focused on improving student outcomes in Grades 11–12.

Student Academic Experience

  • Ensure all students—whether pursuing the full IB Diploma or individual IB courses—receive high-quality academic guidance, feedback, and support.
  • Oversee the Grade 10 → 11 subject selection process in collaboration with counselors and department leaders.
  • Work with the counseling team to align subject choices with students' interests, strengths, and post-secondary goals.
  • Promote academic integrity, balance, and a healthy approach to challenge and achievement.

Programme Administration and Communication

  • Serve as the school's liaison with the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), managing all aspects of IBIS registration, examination administration, and submission of student work.
  • Oversee grade reporting for Grades 11–12 and ensure clarity, consistency, and transparency in communication with students and families.
  • Lead communication about IB Diploma requirements, updates, and key academic milestones.
  • Coordinate and celebrate DP and Grade 12 academic achievements through events and publications.

Teaching (approx. 40%)

  • Teach two IB Diploma classes in a subject area to be determined, modeling effective pedagogy, feedback, and care for students.

Ideal Qualifications and Experience

  • Significant experience teaching and/or leading within the IB Diploma Programme.
  • Demonstrated excellence in instructional leadership, coaching, and/or faculty development.
  • Strong understanding of inclusive curriculum design and assessment for learning.
  • Experience collaborating with and supporting Heads of Department as instructional leaders.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to use student learning data and reflective practice to support continuous improvement.
