Role Summary
The Manager or Senior Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis plays a key role in financial management of R&D and Enabling Functions in the Japan organization.
This role is responsible for OPEX planning & analysis for R&D and Enabling Functions, as well as supporting the consolidation of the Japan market PL together with the Associate Director, FP&A.
The position will closely collaborate with functional leaders, the global FP&A counterparts and internal stakeholders to deliver accurate financial insights that support strategic decision making.
This role offers broad exposure to functional leaders and the opportunity to contribute to key financial insights that shape Japan's business decisions.
Key Responsibilities
1. R&D & Enabling Functions OPEX Management
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and monthly variance analysis for R&D Clinical Science, Development, QA, Regulatory, Safety, etc.) and Enabling Functions (IT, HR, Communications, Finance, etc.)
- Partner with functional heads to provide financial insights and support resource allocation
- Monitor spending trends, risks & opportunities, and propose actions to improve financial performance
- Manage monthly business review preparation and ensure data accuracy and consistency
2. Japan Market P/L Support and Consolidation
- Support the Associate Director in preparing and validating the monthly P/L consolidation, ensuring accuracy across revenue, COGS and OPEX
- Prepare management-level reporting packages and financial narratives
- Support Forecasting, Budgeting, and strategic long-term planning cycles
3. Financial Analysis and Business Partnering
- Partner with functional leaders to provide financial insights, support decision-making, and drive resource optimization
- Lead monthly reviews with functional teams to discuss performance, risks & opportunities.
- Provide analytical support for headcount planning and organizational initiatives
- Contribute to process improvements and automation initiatives (e.g., BI tools, reporting optimization)
4. Cross-functional & Global Collaboration
- Coordinate with global FP&A to align on timelines, templates, and reporting standards
- Support global financial submissions related to R&D and enabling functions
- Participate in cross-functional projects that enhance Japan's financial operations
