We are looking for an
Environmental Compliance Specialist
to support a global technology client's Environmental Technologies organization in Japan.
This role will be responsible for ensuring product and supply chain environmental compliance across multiple product lines. You will work closely with suppliers, internal engineering teams, and third-party laboratories to gather, validate, and manage environmental compliance data, while supporting audits, training, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and execute environmental compliance activities for electronic products and components
- Collect, consolidate, and validate environmental data related to substances, materials, packaging, and biocompatibility
- Ensure compliance with global environmental regulations and standards such as RoHS, REACH, CA Prop 65, EPEAT, IEC 62321, including understanding of related test methods
- Coordinate with suppliers, internal stakeholders, and external laboratories to support compliance testing and documentation
- Conduct or support product environmental compliance audits, failure analysis, root cause investigation, and corrective actions
- Support environmental validation of materials, modules, and finished goods
- Work with suppliers to improve environmental compliance quality control and testing capability
- Track issues between suppliers and engineering teams and drive them to timely resolution
- Prepare and deliver regular progress reports and compliance status updates
- Support development and continuous improvement of compliance systems and processes
- Collaborate in a highly cross-functional, fast-paced engineering environment
- Travel frequently within Japan to supplier factories, with travel expected at least once per month
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, or related scientific/engineering field
- 5+ years experience with product environmental compliance audits and supplier quality management
- Strong understanding of environmental regulations and product compliance standards, including RoHS, REACH, CA Prop 65, EPEAT, and IEC 62321
- Experience in failure analysis, root cause investigation, and corrective action planning
- Knowledge and/or hands-on experience with electronic product assembly processes and environmental compliance quality control for electronic devices
- Experience managing compliance data and documentation with supply chain partners
- Strong project management and communication skills
- Ability to work independently while coordinating with multiple stakeholders
- Comfortable working in a collaborative, cross-functional, and fast-paced environment
- Native-level Japanese and Business-level English communication skills
