FunkyCorp is a digital agency in Tokyo looking for an experienced writer and editor to join our content team.
You will work closely with project managers and other editors to create engaging content for a global audience, covering everything from Japan's history and culture to travel and nature.
This role involves writing for a variety of media—from websites and social media to video scripts and print materials.
If you have a keen eye for detail, a passion for all things Japan, and a natural curiosity, we want to hear from you.
What you will be doing
Conducting research in English and Japanese
Creating content proposals
Writing accurately to an approved content plan and style guide
Revising work based on feedback from team members and clients
Editing, fact-checking, and proofreading
Auditing existing English content, identifying issues, and making recommendations for improvement
Rewriting text translated into English, referring back to the Japanese to confirm intent and meaning
Commissioning external writers
Communicating with internal project teams in English and Japanese
Attending client meetings conducted in Japanese
Completing tasks assigned by the Content Director and senior managers
What we're looking for
2+ years of experience creating tourism-related or journalistic content (preferably on Japan)
Excellent research skills
Ability to adapt to different writing styles
Knowledgeable about Japan and Japanese history and culture
Japanese ability equivalent to JLPT N2 or higher
Able to travel to conduct occasional on-the-ground research
Good organization and time-management skills
Team player who can work collaboratively with other writers, editors, and project managers, sharing ideas and receiving feedback
Good computer skills with a strong command of Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Google Docs/Sheets, and Keynote
Translation experience advantageous
Knowledge of SEO is preferred but not essential

Salary:
JPY 4 – 4.5 million per annum, depending on experience
Bonus:
twice a year (at the company's sole discretion)
Employment contract:
one-year renewable contract, with a change to a permanent contract possible after 2 years
Employment location:
Portal Point Harajuku Annex 8F, Sendagaya, Shibuya Tokyo
Work hours: 10:00–19:00 Mon–Fri, excluding public holidays
Paid leave:
entitled after 6 months
Travel allowance:
maximum ¥20,000
