Position Overview

The Japan Underwriting team is looking for a leader of Underwriting solution with life and living products underwriting experience to assist with UW initiatives, product development, digital underwriting, and associated risk controls to ensure RGA remains at the forefront of the industry whilst maintaining long term profitability and steadfast risk management practices.

The Director, Leader of Underwriting Solution, is a highly influential position, impacting new business growth and, RGA's brand in innovative business solution, risk management and underwriting excellence.

This permanent full-time position is based in Japan and reports into the Chief Underwriter, Head of Underwriting.

Responsibilities

Internal

  • Work closely with Chief Underwriter, Head of Underwriting and team members in Underwriting, Business Development (BD), Product Development (PD) and Pricing to identify and research new business opportunities, developing them into concrete UW solutions. Ensure the implementation of innovative UW solutions will drive profitable and sustainable growth for RGA and its clients.
  • Render efficient and courteous service to internal and external clients and ensure specified timelines and quality of service are maintained.
  • Collaborate with BD, Pricing and Medical Doctors to lead UW gap analysis for medical and non-medical areas, then develop tailored UW solution for our priority clients.
  • Proactively Work with BD, Pricing, Medical Doctors, and PD to provide UW input on Reinsurance tender and New Product Development to assist with assumptions setting, pricing and development of relevant UW solutions.
  • Collaborate with pricing team, conduct experience analysis of UW Solutions including AP and facultative business.
  • Lead UWS team to evaluate and create underwriting and risk management frameworks for new product concepts and benefit design.
  • Work closely with various RGA experts within local, regional, and global teams to identify, discuss and obtain approval for new underwriting solutions.

  • Develop strong relationships with product management, underwriting and medical personnel at client companies.
  • Gather product and underwriting intelligence from direct companies and distributions.
  • Participate in client meetings to present new ideas, handle concerns or address queries to resolve challenges.
  • Visit current and prospective clients regularly and conduct effective marketing presentations on RGA's UW solutions.
  • Work in Client's office to proceed projects when required.
  • Present at business development or industry seminars, as required.
  • Lead and support the team by working on any other activities / projects within the scope of Underwriting solutions team on a need basis.

    • Requirements

  • More than 10 years of experience in Life and Living benefits Underwriting.
  • Subject matter expert in tech area of medical, Financial, Digital and Product underwriting
  • Good knowledge of insurance Trend, Product, UW practices, and distribution and the ability to apply and communicate this knowledge to underwriters and management.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Leadership and ability to motivate and empower team members.
  • Creative, agile, and open minded with a flair to take up challenges and deliver solutions within agreed timelines.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to build professional relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
