About the Company

Foxit is seeking a highly reliable and detail-driven accountant to fully own the accounting, reporting, and compliance for our Japan subsidiary. The Japan subsidiary requires a high level of accuracy due to foreign currency translation, local statutory requirements, tax compliance, and consolidation into a US parent under US GAAP.

About the Role

This role functions as the single point of accountability for the Japan entity's books and financial representative for Japan. The ideal candidate is comfortable operating independently, managing local requirements, coordinating with business partners and advisors, while delivering clean, audit-ready financials to the US finance team.

Responsibilities

Entity Ownership & Core Accounting

• Own the full general ledger for the Japan subsidiary
• Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities
• Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and adjustments
• Maintain complete and accurate balance sheet reconciliations
• Ensure all transactions are properly recorded and supported

Reporting, Translation & Consolidation

• Prepare monthly financial statements for the Japan entity
• Translate financials from Japanese to English for US reporting
• Convert JPY results to USD in accordance with group FX policies
• Prepare reporting packages for consolidation into the US parent
• Support intercompany accounting, reconciliations, and eliminations

Local Statutory & Tax Compliance

• Coordinate and/or prepare local Japanese tax filings, including corporate tax, consumption tax, and withholding tax as applicable
• Ensure compliance with local statutory accounting and filing requirements
• Manage relationships with local tax advisors and statutory auditors
• Track filing deadlines and ensure timely submissions
• Maintain documentation to support tax positions and audits

Controls, Process & Documentation

• Maintain strong internal controls at the entity level
• Ensure proper documentation and audit trails are in place
• Identify and implement process improvements to increase accuracy and efficiency
• Align local accounting practices with US GAAP and corporate policies

Local Operations Partnership (HR, Order Management, Finance, Recruitment)

• Serve as the local finance owner and Japan entity representative for day-to-day operational support across key functions—including HR, order management, recruitment, and corporate finance
• Act as the first point of contact for finance-related questions impacting the Japan subsidiary; respond with timely, accurate guidance aligned to policy and local requirements
• Support operational workflows that touch the Japan books (e.g., vendor setup, invoicing support, employee-related payments/expense processes, intercompany inquiries), coordinating with the US finance team as needed
• Triage and resolve issues (data gaps, process breaks, compliance risks) and escalate appropriately with clear context and recommendations
• Help ensure local operational practices align with corporate standards (controls, documentation, approvals) while remaining practical for a small but complex subsidiary

Audit & Cross-Functional Support

• Act as primary accounting contact for local audits and reviews
• Support US audit requests related to the Japan subsidiary
• Respond to finance, tax, and leadership inquiries with clear explanations

Qualifications

• Must-Have Experience & Skills
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Prior experience owning a legal entity end-to-end
• Strong understanding of US GAAP and consolidation concepts
• Experience with foreign currency accounting and translation
• Exposure to local statutory accounting and tax compliance
• High attention to detail and ability to work independently

Required Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
• CPA, JCPA, or equivalent certification strongly preferred

Preferred Skills

• Experience with Japanese statutory accounting or Japan GAAP
• Hands-on experience with Japanese tax filings
• ERP experience (NetSuite preferred)
• Bilingual Japanese and English strongly preferred
• Experience working with small but complex subsidiaries
• Comfort operating with limited local support
