About J PREP
J PREP is a liberal arts after-school cram school based in Shibuya, with branches in Jiyugaoka, Kichijoji, Yotsuya, Yokohama, Mita, Myogadani, Azamino and Sakata (Yamagata Prefecture). J PREP was founded in 2012 by Jun Saito, a former assistant professor of political science at Yale University and the author of several recent bestselling books. J PREP students are between the ages of 3 through 18 and attend top schools in and around Tokyo. Many of our students aspire to study abroad, attend university at high-ranking schools in the United States and other countries, or enter English-oriented domestic programs.
Our highly qualified faculty members are graduates of some of the top liberal arts programs in the US and internationally, and many hold advanced degrees.J PREP is rapidly expanding. Our multimedia curriculum is intended to broaden students' perspectives, and supplemental courses in various liberal arts disciplines (such as literature, economics, and science) are offered periodically. Our long-term mission is to better the overall quality of the Japanese educational system from the bottom up, rather than merely teaching conversational English or preparing students for entrance exams in Japan. As a majority of our faculty members have lived outside Japan, they understand the importance of English as a communication device. For the same reason, J PREP's work environment is not confined by traditional Japanese corporate culture.
Description of Position
J PREP Kids is seeking enthusiastic instructors to join our team and support our rapidly growing student population. In this part-time role, successful applicants will be responsible for teaching groups of up to 12 students from grades 1 – 4. We are currently looking for candidates with experience teaching exclusively in English to students of varying proficiencies. We strive to help students improve their communication skills, think critically, express themselves, and reach their academic goals. Instructors are expected to teach between 2 – 6 hours per scheduled working day.
Wages
Probationary lesson wage: 3,500 yen/hour + 1,500 yen preparation allowance
Standard lesson wage: 4,000 yen/hour + 1,500 yen preparation allowance
Explorers lesson wage, 5,000 yen/hour + 1,500 yen preparation allowance
Working hours
J PREP Kids offers classes seven days of the week.
Applicants are welcome to apply for 1-5 days of lessons per week.
Class times vary depending on the school location, but can range from 3:30pm-7:30pm on weekdays and 10:00am-4:00pm on weekends.

Perks
Transporation is reimbursed. Remote grading, content creation, online lessons (*very limited), and seasonal session opportunities also available. Preparation allowance. Office de Yasai and tea and coffee available to all employees.
What we are looking for in a potential applicant
Applicants must be fluent in English and be able to demonstrate native-level proficiency. Lessons are taught in an all-English environment following our in-house curriculum tailored towards Japanese students of English. Once an agreed upon schedule is set, we'd like instructors to commit to an academic year in order to maintain consistency and rapport for the educational benefit of the students at J PREP.
Required Skills/Experience
・ 2 years of experience teaching elementary or junior high school students in Japan preferred.
・ Experience conducting learner-centered classes to engage students as well as enhance their learning objectives.
・ While not required, extra consideration will be given to TEFL, TESOL, CELTA, or DELTA certification holders.
Paid Time Off and Vacation
Paid leave is offered to eligible staff after six months of employment. There are seven recess weeks in the academic year.
