Department: Strategy Division, Advanced Planning Department, New Technology Development Group

The Advanced Planning Department is an organization like an in-house venture that aims to create innovative new businesses utilizing cutting-edge technologies in all areas.

Armed with a wide range of technological expertise, including automotive technologies, and an environment in which anyone can take on challenges, they are taking on the challenge of creating innovative products that will be needed 3 to 5 years into the future.

The department operates on two pillars: contract development requested by the parent company, Toyota Motor Corporation, and research and development for the creation of new businesses of own.

For development projects with Toyota Motor Corporation, they perform all tasks related to development, such as fleshing out customer requirements and software specifications, design, development, and DevOps.

R&D projects range from Metaverse to Ethical MaaS, but all of them are based on the concept of aiming to provide essential solutions to social issues.

They start with ideation, followed by product design in demonstration tests, requirement definition in the social implementation process, and design development, all of which are handled by our company.

【Role】

Currently, one lead engineer, one sub-lead engineer, and two members make up one development unit, and each unit is responsible for new business development. The person in this position will be expected to serve as a tech lead (engineering manager) for the additional development units that will be added as the organization expands.

【Your Expected Role】

・Your main mission is to collaborate with other engineers and the business planning team to quickly launch products and link them to social implementation.

・You will be responsible for steering the entire project, from research theme exploration, project planning, development execution, and evaluation report preparation, while always keeping your antennae open to various new technologies.

・As a leader of research and development and product owner, you will have a great deal of discretion and responsibility, and as a member of the Agile Scrum team, you will be expected to carry out high-quality design, development, and delivery.

・You will also actively participate in value creation as an organization through recruitment activities, human resource development, and co-creation with overseas subsidiary members.

Required

・5+ years of experience in front-end, back-end, and cloud infrastructure development

・Experience working with multi-functional teams on large scale projects and managing projects by involving others across the organization

Preferred

・Understanding and experience with scalability, availability, performance, and security of large scale, high frequency systems

・Experience with refactoring and applying design patterns to large code bases

・Ability to think strategically to achieve technical alignment across cross-feature teams
