Job Description:
Accounting Responsibilities:
- Manage the entire monthly close process, including preparation and review of financial statements, providing accounting guidance, reviewing account reconciliations, and delivering financials in a timely manner.
- Lead and develop a team of three accounting professionals in Tokyo.
- Oversee end-to-end accounts payable processes (requisition/purchase orders, invoice validation, payment preparation, etc.).
- Manage annual financial audits for multiple entities, responding to auditor queries, and managing audit timelines for timely delivery.
- Perform technical accounting analysis on major contracts and transactions.
Tax Responsibilities:
- Manage monthly and annual tax requirements, including annual tax returns, consumption tax, and withholding tax filings.
- Ensure compliance with municipal, state, and federal tax requirements in Japan.
Financial Support:
- Provide financial support to all departments for portfolio growth and development in Japan.
- Track budgets, prepare reports, and ensure efficient financial management of assets.
- Design, implement, and maintain internal control policies and procedures for compliance, standardization, and efficiency at corporate and country levels.
- Take ownership of solving accounting, treasury, or tax issues related to projects and coordinate with multiple functions.
Requirements:
Essential Skills & Experiences:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field.
- Bilingual in Japanese and English, both written and oral.
- 10+ years of accounting experience.
- Experience in energy, construction, or real estate industries preferred but not required.
- CPC or CPA equivalent preferred.
- Existing understanding and knowledge of JGAAP.
- Multi-site organization or public accounting firm experience preferred.
- Experience working with a multinational company based in the U.S.
- People leader experience, including hiring, coaching, performance reviews, constructive feedback, building positive work environments, and directing others' work.
- Ability to adhere to deadlines and meet department-driven targets.
- Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office products.
- Understanding of variance/trend analysis with actual/budget/historical results.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for cross-functional teamwork.
- Strong teamwork spirit, responsibility, dependability, and exceptional work ethic.
