Position Overview
As the Accounting Specialist for the AI Robot Association (AIRoA), you will be responsible for a wide range of accounting operations, from daily tasks through to monthly and annual closing. Your specific duties will include journal entry input, invoice and payment processing, cash-in/cash-out management, accounts receivable and payable management, support for monthly and annual closing, and coordination with tax accountants and auditors.
At AIRoA, it is essential not only to clearly track all sources of income, but also to manage profit and loss by project and handle budgeting and variance analysis. Looking ahead, you will also be involved in designing accounting workflows, selecting appropriate accounting standards, and building internal control frameworks.
【What Makes the "Accounting Specialist" Role at AIRoA Unique】
Accounting at AIRoA is not a role where you "just manage the numbers." As an association that aims to drive technological innovation in robotics and its social implementation through the fusion of robots and AI, you will have a bird's-eye view of the flow of funds in large-scale projects focused on building a robot data ecosystem.
As a NEDO-funded initiative, we operate with a substantial R&D budget and are expected to provide highly transparent financial information and ensure accountability to a wide range of stakeholders, including member companies, universities, research institutions, and subject-matter experts.
In this role, you can experience both the public-interest mission of a general incorporated association and the fast pace of a venture, while truly "supporting the mission of the association through numbers."
【The Appeal of Taking On This Challenge at AIRoA, Just as We Are Getting Started】
AIRoA is a general incorporated association established in 2024. As our projects move into full swing, our organizational development is accelerating. We operate with a small, highly skilled team and are very much in the "building the rules and mechanisms from scratch" phase typical of an early-stage organization.
This means you will have the opportunity to co-design our accounting policies, chart of accounts, approval workflows, reporting formats, and more. It is a rare environment where you can shape your own career while supporting researchers, companies, and the association itself at the forefront of robotics and AI.
【Other】
While remote work is possible, this role is primarily expected to be office-based.
Most of our engineers and researchers also work on-site, conducting research and development directly in front of the robots.
【About AIRoA】
AIRoA was established in December 2024 with two core objectives: "to revolutionize the technology of robot development through the fusion of robots and AI" and "to promote the use of robots in society." While AI is rapidly advancing worldwide, the shortage of data in robot development has become a critical issue.
To address this challenge, we are running a national flagship project funded by NEDO (New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization), with an investment of over JPY 20 billion.
●Recruitment Background
AIRoA has launched large-scale R&D projects, including the development of foundational robot models. The association is driving a national initiative with a total project budget of approximately 20 billion yen, and multiple new projects are expected to roll out going forward.
To support this growth, we are newly hiring an Accounting Specialist to build a robust internal accounting and finance structure. You will play a key role as a core member in shaping both the organization and its financial systems.
●Future Mission
After joining AIRoA, you will first get up to speed by taking on day-to-day accounting operations and monthly closing as your main responsibilities. Building on that foundation, your role will expand into governance-related areas, including preparing statutory financial statements required of a general incorporated association, and creating materials and providing explanations for auditor reviews, board of directors meetings, and general meetings of members.
You will also play a key role in building our management accounting framework—such as budget and cost control for various joint research projects, and the classification and management of membership fees, donations, and operating income. In addition, you will be involved in formulating medium- to long-term funding plans, and we expect you to help lead the association as a whole from a finance and accounting perspective.
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- At least 3 years of accounting experience (in a business company or association/organization)
- Hands-on ownership of at least one of the following areas: journal entry input, invoicing/payment processing, or monthly closing
- Accounting knowledge equivalent to Level 2 of the Japan Bookkeeping Certification (Nissho Boki)
- Basic data aggregation and analysis skills using Excel and/or Google Sheets
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in accounting and financial closing at non-profit organizations such as general incorporated associations, public interest corporations, or NPOs
- Practical experience with project-based accounting for grants, research funds, or commissioned projects
- Experience using cloud-based accounting software such as freee or Money Forward
- Comfortable reading emails and documents in English
- Proven experience proactively designing accounting workflows and driving process improvements
Benefits
●Our Office
We currently operate out of a spacious office and research facility of over 1,000 m² located in the Ryutsu Center area. In this space, our business teams and engineering teams work in close collaboration, advancing both day-to-day operations and R&D with AI robots always close at hand. The facility is frequently visited not only by members of the AI Robot Association, but also by engineers and researchers from partner companies and representatives from member companies. As a result, it serves as a hub where diverse experts at the forefront of AI and robotics gather and interact.
●Your Colleagues
Today, highly skilled engineers and researchers from around the world are part of our organization. Some members have even relocated from overseas to Japan to join our projects on site.
