Job Description

• Implements and executes capacity and capability management for services in the areas of functional safety, cybersecurity, autonomous system safety, software-intensive systems generally, and related services, under the guidance of the Engineering Manager.
• Ensures effective workflow by engaging with cross functional leads and customers in order to understand scope of projects and technical needs to assign resources effectively.
• Responsible for driving process improvements to ensure financial results are achieved.
• Typically supports local members of a team but may support remote employees in other locations.
• Drives a high performing team by hiring, retaining, and managing the performance and development of team members with critical skills in the areas of functional safety, cybersecurity, autonomous system safety, software-intensive systems generally, and related services.
• Operates effectively in the UL matrix to actively support and drive high performance culture changes, transformation efforts and people engagement.
• Holds team and self accountable for results, assists Engineering Manager in defining goals and performance objectives and metrics to execute strategy.
• Develops and coaches by providing, training, career counseling, feedback, guidance to drive high performance and morale.
• Ensures understanding of and compliance with all established policies and requirements.
• Lead business development activities defining and/or approving full proposals, or relevant proposal content such as pricing and statements of work (SOWs) for client-funded projects.
• Leverage industry experience and network to win projects and build the business.
• Provides direct expert technical support and leads technical training events as necessary, in areas such as functional safety, autonomous system safety, software-intensive systems generally.
• Serves in positions of expertise with respect to technical issues, reviews, etc. ; with capability to perform roles similar to those of Staff Engineer on an as-needed basis.
• Requires deep technical expertise in functional safety, cybersecurity, autonomous system safety, and software-intensive systems generally.
• Increases customer loyalty, anticipates customer needs and provides proactive solutions.
• Gathers, shares and responds to customer feedback.
• Supports sales by building relationships with customers, requiring a deep understanding of what is in pipeline, obtaining feedback on how UL can do better, what is working well and identifies actions and solutions.
• Provides direct support to customers and team by providing technical guidance and engineering judgment to complete projects and address all issues arising needing resolution (customer complaints, unusual requests, technical advice, etc.).
• Ensures quality and adherence to policies and standards requirements.
• Leads and/or participates in discussions to drive business initiatives through brainstorming discussions.
• Empowers and holds team accountable to find new opportunities to effectively drive growth & financial goals (revenue, profit, enterprise value, etc. ).
• Delegates Project Handlers to establish the appropriate technical programs.
• Supports and guides project handlers to ensure compliance with requirements, changes in project scope or specifications and customer notifications.
• Explains UL family of companies' policies, procedures and requirements, negotiates completion dates and sample requirements, and ensures an effective experience with the UL family of companies.
• May handle some projects and/or act as lead reviewer to support workflow and demand. Provides direct expert technical support as necessary, in areas such as functional safety, cybersecurity, autonomous system safety, software-intensive systems generally.

Responsibilities

• University Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Computer Science Engineering or a closely related field in a relevant technical field plus 5 or more years of relevant experience.
• Working knowledge of conformity standards in use in area of expertise.
• Working knowledge of conformity standards in use in area of expertise. Good understanding of the concept of relevant functional safety and cybersecurity standards, UL991, UL1998, UL/IEC Annex H, IEC/UL Annex R, ISO13849-1&2, IEC61508, IEC/EN 62061, ISO 61511, ISO 26262, ISO 21448, IEC 62443 and other similar standards. Familiar with Machinery Regulation(2023/1230/EU)/Directive(2006/42/EC) and EC Type Examination.
• Demonstrates the ability to make the complex simple and present information in a concise, relevant and powerful manner.
• Demonstrates the ability to analyze and interpret analyses, data, process documents and plans.
• Demonstrates proficiency in local language and English.
• Demonstrates customer collaboration, project management and business acumen skills.
