Rakuten Group, Inc. is a leading e-commerce business in Japan which also operates in South-East Asia, Europe, and the Americas. As part of Rakuten Enterprise Cloud Foundation Department (EFD)'s, you will help us succeed on our mission to aggregate Rakuten platforms through a unified user experience and seamless cross-use to accelerate Rakuten Group, Inc. services to go-to market. As a horizontal organization, our success is connected to each vertical organization's own success.
The API Solutions Group manages API gateways that empower services throughout the entire Rakuten Group. You will be leading a talented, multicultural, agile team responsible for building and maintaining multiple mission-critical services on private & public Cloud infrastructure.
Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to contribute more to critical services at a large, enterprise-level scale. Our services maintain high quality & SLA while handling a tremendous amount of traffic.

Position Details
As an Engineering Manager you will play a critical role in our organization, providing leadership and strategic direction to one of our software engineering groups as well as taking accountability for the team capacity to deliver and the quality of the deliverables. We are looking for a person who has expertise in managing the career path of engineers through mentorship and guidance, has experience taking responsibility of the quality of the services he or she owns in production, and has a passion for the technical quality of his or her technical products.
Mandatory Qualifications:
- Coach and guide the Scrum team to successfully deliver high quality products that align with the section direction and adhere to the acceptance criteria set forth by the product owner while keeping an eye on high quality software development practices.
- Grow and guide your members on their career paths, you will be the one they look up to for guidance and help.
- Work along with engineers and leaders to promote collaboration between our various teams.
- Keep a solid mid- and long-term engineering vision.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience coaching and guiding 5-10 engineers in 1-2 scrum teams.
- More than 3 years of management experience.
- Experience managing large scale applications/platforms (API gateway) is a bonus.

Additional information on English Qualification
- Proficiency in English, with a business level of understanding (TOIEC 800 or above).
- Japanese proficiency is a bonus but not mandatory.
