Reporting to the Division Director, this full-time and permanent position is based in Nihonbashi, Tokyo, and offers regional coverage, allowing you to make a significant impact to our Accounting Division and its' growth.
This is an individual contributor position, which plays a key role in empowering our entire accounting division acting as a subject matter expert.
Oversee full-cycle monthly, quarterly, and annual closings in compliance with Japan GAAP
Prepare additional financial reports as requested by clients
Provide expert financial advice, troubleshoot operational issues, and deliver practical recommendations
Communicate with and manage global clients and partners remotely
Drive continuous improvement in team performance and efficiency
Identify risks and propose mitigation strategies
Handle internal/external issues and escalate as needed to senior management
Support internal management with ad hoc projects and tasks
Key Requirements
5+ years of accounting experience
5+ years in public accounting, outsourcing, or consulting with multiple clients OR 5+ years of team leadership/management experience in-house/client-side
Solid knowledge of IFRS, JGAAP, and Japan tax regulations
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Highly organized, deadline-driven, and accountable
High attention to detail and accuracy
Comfortable with large volumes of data and complex procedures
Business Level English and Japanese (reading, writing, speaking)
Proficient in Excel, including formula creation
Demonstrated eagerness to learn and grow professionally
Bonus Qualifications
CPA, USCPA, Boki 2nd Grade, or equivalent certification
Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business
Client management experience
Experience with accounting software (e.g. SAP, Oracle, Xero, Microsoft Dynamics NAV)
