Business Overview


The Marketing Division leads branding, brand asset creation, marketing, and membership as a cross-group organization with a mission to expand Rakuten Group's membership value and ecosystem of over 70 services.

Department Overview

Rakuten Design Lab Is a Creative Organization Whose Main Scopes Are (1) Branding, (2) Creative Research, And (3) Production, And Its Purpose Is To Contribute To The Expansion Of The Rakuten Ecosystem Through

Branding / brand asset development
Creative research / solution development
Creative output


As a creative organization under Kashiwa Sato, CCD (Chief Creative Director) of Rakuten Group, it is responsible for the branding of the entire group and leads creative initiatives through creative direction, art direction, and various productions, in collaboration with top management, external agencies, and various domestic and international group departments.


Instead of belonging to a specific business or service, it exists as a cross-organizational unit within the group and belongs to the Creative Design Strategy Department, which is responsible for the creative strategy of the entire Rakuten Group.

It collaborates with teams within the same department, such as the UX Lab and UX Strategy teams, and works with the Branding team, which is responsible for brand strategy.

Why We Hire

We are looking for an Art Director/Graphic Designer for Rakuten Design Lab, Rakuten Group's cross-organizational creative team.

You will be responsible for various creative tasks, not limited to design, to enhance the brand value of the Rakuten Group.


To strengthen the organization by having creators with diverse knowledge participate as the scope of work and creative output expand.

All production work associated with the above activities, including art direction, graphic design, motion graphic design, movie production, creative coding, etc.

Work Environment

Mandatory Qualifications

3+ years of practical experience in art direction/graphic design (regardless of whether at a company, agency, production company, or freelance)
Ability to communicate with management, external agencies, and other departments.
Knowledge of or interest in cutting-edge creative, such as AI and new forms of expression.
Ability to adapt flexibly and quickly to changes in new processes, ideas, and policy shifts.
Ability to think logically and handle creative work consistently from upstream concept to output.
Native or advanced Japanese language proficiency.

Desired Qualifications

Experience with creative work in a global environment using English.
Skills and network to select and direct agencies depending on the project.
Experience planning and promoting creative strategies and communication strategies.
Experience in branding, CI / BI / VI design.
Skills in AI-driven creative, creative coding, etc.

Video production skills, such as for movies/motion graphics.-Experience or skills in UX design.-Experience or skills in UI design and web design-Native or advanced business English proficiency.
