LOOK UP ACCOUNTING is seeking an English-Japanese Bilingual Accounting Staff member to work with our international and English-speaking clients.
This is more than a traditional bookkeeping role—you will communicate directly with global clients while supporting Japanese accounting and tax operations in a fully cloud-based, DX-driven environment.
This position is ideal for professionals who want to engage in Accounting × Communication × International Business.This role is available as either a part-time employee or independent contractor, with the contract type determined based on responsibilities, availability, and individual preferences.
Working Style:
Primarily office-based (minimum 2 days per week)
Located in Shimokitazawa, Tokyo
Partial remote work may be available depending on experience and job scope
Key Responsibilities
Perform bookkeeping and financial record-keeping using cloud accounting software (freee)
Assist with monthly and annual financial closing processes
Support corporate tax and consumption tax filing preparation
Communicate with international clients in English via email, Slack, and online meetings
Verify and reconcile transactions using overseas payment platforms (PayPal, Wise, Stripe, Airwallex, etc.)
Provide CFO support functions including cash flow monitoring, basic financial analysis, and organizing data for management decision-making
Manage projects and tasks using internal collaboration tools
Interpret financial data and share insights with clients and team members to support informed business decisions

This is not a data entry-only position. We value understanding the context behind numbers and communicating insights effectively.
Required Qualifications
Practical experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or finance (experience in either an accounting firm or a corporate finance department is acceptable)
Business-level English proficiency for professional email correspondence and meeting communication
Basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel and comfort working with cloud-based tools
Ability to work a minimum of 2 days per week from our Tokyo office
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with international clients or foreign companies
Ability to explain accounting and tax concepts clearly in English
Positive attitude toward cloud accounting systems and digital transformation (DX)
Strong interest in learning Japanese accounting and tax practices through hands-on work
Excellent team communication and collaboration skills
Interest in expanding responsibilities into tax advisory or CFO-related functions
Knowledge of or interest in cryptocurrency and Web3-related fields
Compensation
Part-time Employee:
Hourly rate:
¥1,500 – ¥2,500 (determined based on experience and scope of responsibilities)
Independent Contractor:
Compensation negotiated individually based on workload and availability
Flexible compensation structure (hourly, monthly retainer, or project-based)
