About the Team
The legal team is committed to providing top-end in-house legal services to its internal clients.
We are looking for a competent candidate to join us to work closely with internal stakeholders to provide pragmatic and strategic advice on innovative enterprise and consumer product offerings and services in Japan.
This position provides candidates with a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge issues in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment. Candidates must be highly collaborative, self-motivated, adept at strategic thinking, and intellectually curious.This role will be based in Tokyo.
Responsibilities include:
- Support existing legal team members on the following matters:
- Work with legal and product teams globally to review products, features, new applications and initiatives to provide legal risk mitigation strategies to ensure legal compliance and provide practical solutions for TikTok and other products;
- Provide legal support to business teams and counsel on a broad range of initiatives, draft and negotiate a broad range of agreements and assist with updating contract templates and legal contracts processes;
- Assist in the localization and maintenance of terms and conditions of TikTok and other products in all aspects of their usage, bearing in mind regulations related to national security, privacy and content concerns.
- Collaborate with other legal team members to improve processes, provide training, and ensure business needs are met.
Minimum Qualification(s)
- Substantial experience working at a reputable law firm or inhouse at a multinational company
- Bar qualification in Japan or Overseas
- Strong Professional fluency in both English and Japanese (written and oral) is required as the role requires this person to be able to draft and review legal documentation in both languages, as well as communicate with internal & external stakeholders in both languages.
- Ability to assess legal, practical and business risks in a fastpaced environment and provide sound advice under tight deadlines
- Proven track record of operating independently with minimal oversight, strong attention to detail, ability to support a heavy volume of work across business functions and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Prior experience working with internet or technology companies a plus
