The Opportunity: Role Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and technically proficient Android Developer to serve as the
Lead Engineer
for our essential
Ground Control Station (GCS) application
. This role is crucial to our Phase 1 success. You will be responsible for turning a consumer drone into a reliable, industrial tool for assisted indoor flight and precise data capture using the
DJI Mobile SDK
.
Key Responsibilities (Phase 1 Focus)
- DJI Mobile SDK Development:
Lead the development, maintenance, and debugging of the native Android GCS application using
Kotlin
and the
DJI Mobile SDK V5
. - Assisted Flight Implementation:
Implement
Virtual Stick Control logic
to stabilize drone flight for non-GPS warehouse aisles, ensuring accurate altitude and slow, steady movement. - Core Data Capture Workflow:
Design and develop the in-app workflow for operators to trigger high-resolution photo capture with a single, reliable button based on location selection (Aisle/Bay). - Metadata Tagging:
Programmatically retrieve and embed critical flight telemetry (altitude, gimbal angle, timestamp) and inventory context (Aisle ID, Location ID) into image metadata (JSON/EXIF). - UI/UX:
Develop a clean, robust, and highly functional user interface focused on operator efficiency and safety checks. - Cloud Integration:
Implement reliable local queuing and upload logic to push captured images and metadata to our
AWS/GCP
cloud backend for AI processing. - Code Quality:
Champion high standards through thorough testing, documentation, and Kotlin best practices.
Required Skills & Experience
- Android Mastery:
3+ years of professional experience developing high-quality native Android applications using
Kotlin
(preferred) or Java. - DJI Mobile SDK (MSDK):
Direct, demonstrable experience
integrating features using DJI Mobile SDK V4 or V5.
Virtual Stick Control experience is a huge plus. - Systems Understanding:
Experience with low-latency telemetry, video streaming, and data processing in mobile/embedded environments. - Networking:
Proficiency with RESTful APIs, JSON, and secure cloud storage uploads (AWS S3/GCP/Azure). - Japanese Proficiency:
Business-level Japanese (JLPT N2 or higher) is highly preferred
for understanding client requirements and local documentation. - Startup Mentality:
Strong problem-solver, self-starter, and thrives in a fast-paced, ownership-driven environment.
Desirable Skills (Nice to Have)
- Experience with Computer Vision libraries (OpenCV, Google Vision API, etc.).
- Hands-on experience with drones, robotics, or complex embedded systems.
- Industrial/Field Operations UI/UX design experience.
