Position Description (3+ year candidates)
This role is for a mid-level analyst experience to join the front-office trading support team. You will take a lead role in short-term market forecasting, enhance and maintain bidding curve-based models, and deliver real-time insights into Japan's wholesale electricity markets. The position requires a strong grasp of power market structures, independent analytical judgment, and fluent bilingual communication skills for effective collaboration with traders, data engineers, and operational teams across regions.

Key Role Responsibilities (3+ year candidates)
The responsibilities of this role include, but not limited to:

  • Independently monitor and interpret short-term market movements in Japan's power sector, identifying key drivers across supply, demand, fuel, and weather
  • Generate day-ahead and intraday price forecasts, and deliver timely market commentaries for the trading desk
  • Design and conduct scenario and sensitivity analyses for disruptive events such as extreme weather, system outages, or LNG delivery risks
  • Contribute to the continuous development, refinement, and application of bidding curve-based market clearing model, improving transparency and accuracy in price formation analysis
  • Collaborate with data engineers to expand automated workflows and ensure robust, scalable data infrastructure
  • Present insights clearly to both domestic and overseas teams, contributing to coordinated trading strategies
  • Engage with plant operations or dispatch-related teams when needed, to better align system modelling assumptions with operational realities

Position Description (1+ year candidates)
This role is for an early-career analyst to join the front-office trading support team. You will contribute to short-term market forecasting, bidding curve-based model development, and real-time analysis of Japan's wholesale electricity markets. The role requires a solid foundation in data analysis, a willingness to learn market structures, and strong bilingual communication skills.

Key Role Responsibilities (1+ year candidates)
The responsibilities of this role include, but not limited to:

  • Monitor short-term trends in Japan's power markets and collect key fundamentals
  • Generate day-ahead and intraday price forecasts and preparing daily commentary reports
  • Run scenario/sensitivity analysis related to demand, weather, outages, or fuel risks, as requested by trading and other commercial functions.
  • Participate in the continuous development and maintenance of bidding curve-based market clearing models
  • Collaborate with data engineers to improve automation and data cleaning pipelines
  • Share insights and analysis with internal teams in Japan and overseas

Communicate with operational teams as needed to better align modelling with real-world system behaviour

Qualifications
Key Qualifications and Experience (3+ year candidates)

  • Master's degree or above in Energy Engineering, Systems Control, Mathematical Economics, or a related quantitative field
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in power market analytics, electricity trading, forecasting, or dispatch modelling, with a proven track record of independent contributions
  • Strong understanding of Japan's market structure, including spot, and balancing mechanisms
  • Proven experience developing or managing bidding curve-based forecasting models
  • Highly proficient in Python and SQL; strong modelling and automation capability
  • Able to clearly communicate market views and collaborate across functions under time pressure

Fluent in both Japanese and English (required). For Japanese nationals: must be able to communicate effectively in English in a business environment, both verbally and in writing. For non-Japanese nationals: must have strong command of Japanese, including the ability to read market regulations, analyse Japanese-language data sources, and participate in internal/external discussions.

Key Qualifications and Experience (1+ year candidates)

  • Academic background in Energy Systems, Engineering, Applied Economics, Physics, or related quantitative field
  • Master's degree preferred; strong Bachelor with Honors will also be considered
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience in power market analytics, energy trading, or system modelling. Outstanding candidates with less experience may also be considered.
  • Basic understanding of Japan's wholesale electricity market and pricing mechanisms
  • Proficient in Python and SQL; experience with practical data processing tasks
  • Clear logical thinking and effective communication
  • Fluent in both Japanese and English (required). For Japanese nationals: must be able to communicate effectively in English in a business environment, both verbally and in writing.
