About the department

The position
As a Director of Sustainability, you will lead a team and collaborate across departments to implement and enhance our sustainability strategies. You will drive Sustainability strategy leadership including developing and implementing comprehensive sustainability strategies aligned with Novo Nordisk's global goals and leading the sustainability team to achieve targets and foster a culture of environmental responsibility. You will also lead project management throughout Novo Nordisk organization not only in Japan but also with Global team. You will collaborate with internal departments (e.g., R&D, manufacturing, supply chain, business units, Global team) to integrate sustainability practices into all business processes. In addition, you need to ensure compliance with local, national, and international environmental regulations and prepare and present detailed reports on sustainability performance, project progress, and outcomes to senior management and external stakeholders.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Develop Novo Nordisk's leadership reputation and position in Japan as advanced in sustainability in the healthcare industry. Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in sustainability and circular economy.
- Initiate, plan, execute, and monitor various sustainability projects, ensuring they meet established goals and timelines.
- Engage with external stakeholders and regulatory bodies, to promote and enhance sustainability initiatives.
- Collaborate with Public Affairs to address policy issues and ensure recognition from political stakeholders for sustainability initiatives.
- Talent development is always great focus in Novo Nordisk in Japan. The director needs to work closely with team members to ensure development of their skills and aid in their career aspiration.
Qualifications
- Must have a minimum bachelor's degree. (an MBA will be a good addition)
- Experience in Healthcare industry is preferred.
- Experience in corporate environmental and/or Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activity is preferred.
- Strong skills to drive cross-function projects and people management experience are required.
- Excellent communication skill in both Japanese and English.
