Key Responsibilities & Learning Opportunities
The intern will primarily focus on the crucial post-capture data processing and system integration stage. Specific tasks include:
1. Data Engineering & Annotation (Computer Vision)
- Data Labeling:
Systematically annotate and label captured images (pallets, boxes, rack labels, product codes) to create a high-quality dataset for training the machine learning models. - Data Augmentation:
Develop and implement strategies (e.g., rotations, lighting changes) to expand the training dataset and improve model robustness against real-world variations (shadows, occlusion).
2. Model Training & Optimization
- Model Implementation:
Assist in training and fine-tuning object detection and Optical Character Recognition (OCR) models (e.g., using frameworks like
YOLO, TensorFlow, or PyTorch
) to accurately identify inventory items and read barcodes/text within the captured images. - Performance Analysis:
Conduct rigorous testing to evaluate model accuracy, precision, and recall ($P, R, F_1 \text{ Score}$) on validation sets and identify areas for improvement.
3. System Integration Support
- Discrepancy Reporting:
Help design and test the logic for comparing AI-generated inventory counts against mock/simulated WMS (Warehouse Management System) data to flag discrepancies. - Dashboard Development:
Assist in structuring and formatting the output data for visualization on a web dashboard, ensuring the insights are clear and actionable for a warehouse manager. - Documentation:
Create clear, professional documentation for the AI pipeline, data standards, and integration methodologies.
