Overview


This role is primarily focused on being a sales director in Japan for certain institutional clients (licensed asset management partners) with a focus on building our institutional book of business in Japan but could also include retail sub advisory opportunities based on the same partnership model. In addition the role also includes the responsibility of heading the Allspring Japan branch as a local representative.

We currently operate in a hybrid working model, whereby you will be required to work in-office 4 days per week.

Responsibilities


As Sales Director:

  • Drive positive net revenue for the assigned portion of the Japan business
  • Engaging in complex, critical and strategic relationships within the assigned territory and client group(s) to develop, grow and retain those relationships
  • Meet annual goals assigned for gross and net sales as well as for gross and net new revenue as determined by senior management
  • Knowing all of Allspring's strategies that are relevant to the Japanese market
  • Participate in developing and executing the overall sales strategy for Allspring in Japan
  • Maintaining thorough, direct dialogue with clients, understanding their needs and delivering solutions
  • Understanding and staying current on Allspring's business strategy in order to drive firm wide initiatives
  • Expanding Allspring's branding and overall presence by developing client focused events (i.e.a symposium, seminar, workshops, or similar events) that can help drive new business and also reinforce our brand
  • Expand our strategic partnerships by increasing the number of investment strategies per partner, by also adding new partners to diversify our business and by entering all feasible channels Allspring can provide solutions to (i.e. insurance, pension, wealth management, etc.)
  • Support our existing partners with all they need to remain relevant and enable them to represent Allspring's capabilities in the utmost professional way

As Japan Representative the role includes both regulatory as well a business responsibilities:

  • Ensure all regulatory and tax reporting is done in a timely and adequate manner
  • Coordinate audits on the branch and other testing as required from time to time
  • Represent the branch in front of the relevant internal committees as required
  • Liaise with and provide regular updates to Allspring's regional Head Office and Conducting officers in Hong Kong as well as reporting to the Japan Board as required
  • Effectively manage the Allspring brand and reputation in Japan
  • Perform other duties as requested from the Tokyo Representative from time to time

Qualifications


Required Qualifications

  • Understanding of the Japanese Licensing and overall regulatory regime
  • Understanding of our Partnership business model in Japan
  • Ability to combine a strong focus on sales with the requirements to also be the Tokyo Branch Representative
  • Ability to effectively communicate though oral and written communication skills in both Japanese and English (fluently)
  • Independent, entrepreneurial spirit who can combine the focus on strategic initiatives with the fast pace of transactional goal achievements
  • Proven team player with the ability to build strong working relationships with teams, management, peers and business partners
  • Excellent understanding of the Japanese institutional asset management industry as well as a comprehensive knowledge of all relevant client types (insurance, pension, corporate, balance sheet and official institutions
  • Ability to close business deals requires sales experience and a client and result focused mindset
  • Deep product knowledge and knowledge of the asset management business including an understanding of different vehicle types (pooled funds, separate accounts, etc.) but also of the various different aspects of the asset management business including operations, compliance, sales, client relations, portfolio management, record keeping, custody, risk management and others

Preferred Qualifications

  • CFA or equivalent title would be nice, but is not a requirement
