Minato Seven Seas International School ¥3,240,000 per year
About Us
Seven Seas International School is a small preschool and elementary school in Hamamatsucho, Tokyo, working with children ages 2-12.

We're an IB Candidate School, but what really defines us is how we blend international education with Japanese cultural values—teaching students to be curious, confident, and respectful of themselves, others, and the world around them.

Our students don't just learn in classrooms.

They take trains to museums, perform in front of 100+ people at our Christmas concert, and participate in neighborhood Halloween parades.

Our level-based approach means children are grouped by developmental readiness rather than age, so every student gets what they actually need.

The Role
We're looking for an experienced homeroom teacher to join our team.

You'll be working with one of our level-based classes (children ages 2-8), guiding them through their days with a mix of structured learning, hands-on exploration, and real-world experiences.

Class placement depends on your strengths and experience—we figure out together where you'll make the biggest impact.

Lessons run in 30-50 minute blocks covering English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Creative Arts, and you'll also support our after-school program with mixed-age groups.

Responsibilities

What you'll be doing:
Teaching daily lessons across subjects for your assigned level-based class
Planning collaboratively with colleagues to adapt curriculum for individual students
Taking students on train excursions and supporting them through public performances
Guiding students in our Buddy System, where older kids mentor younger ones
Helping students develop independence, focus, and emotional regulation
Building genuine relationships with students while setting clear boundaries
Communicating with families and contributing ideas to our curriculum

Qualifications

What we need:
At least 2 years of classroom teaching experience (homeroom preferred)
Fluent English (native or near-native)
Currently living in Japan with a valid work visa
Bachelor's degree (Education or related field preferred)
Strong classroom management skills

What helps:
Experience with inquiry-based or project-based learning
Familiarity with IB philosophy (nice to have, not required)
Background working with young children (ages 2-8)
Comfort with approaches like Montessori or other child-centered methods
Appreciation for Japanese culture and how it shows up in our school

What matters most:
You're warm and enthusiastic, but also know how to set clear expectations
You're flexible and enjoy collaborating with a small team
You can read a room and adjust your teaching when needed
You respect both structure and creativity, and know when each matters
You genuinely love helping children become independent, confident learners

Note:
We welcome both international and Japanese educators who are passionate about English-immersion education. If you're a Japanese educator excited about teaching in an international environment, we'd love to hear from you.
日本人の方も歓迎します英語を使った国際教育に情熱を持ち、子どもたちと共に学び成長することが好きな方をお待ちしています。

What We Offer

The environment:
Small team where your input actually matters. Regular collaboration with colleagues who support each other. You'll be involved in curriculum decisions, not just implementing someone else's plans. We provide good resources and trust teachers to use them purposefully.

The students:
Engaged kids who want to learn. Families who chose us intentionally and share our values. You'll see real independence and maturity, even in our youngest students.

Compensation:
¥270,000/month during probation → ¥280,000/month after, with potential for raises and bonuses
Monday-Friday, 9:00-18:00 (weekends and holidays off)
Approximately 4 weeks off per year spread throughout the school calendar—Golden Week, Obon, and other school holidays
Transportation allowance up to ¥20,000/month
Social insurance and pension after 3-month probation

Start Date
Immediately—our hiring process takes time, so we start reviewing applications now
