The Opportunity

Our Competition, Regulation and Trade practice is consistently rated as one of the leading practices in its field, with a team of specialists based in EMEA, Asia and across Australia. Our team is at the forefront of these developments, and ideally placed to navigate the legal challenges that arise in this constantly evolving area. We advise clients in a wide range of industries across the full spectrum of competition, regulation and trade-related issues.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Competition, Regulation and Trade practice, and to be based in our market leading Tokyo office, which houses one of the largest and most experienced teams of registered foreign lawyers in Tokyo. Our practice centres on multijurisdictional matters and we work in close collaboration with our network of international offices.

Primary Objectives

Deliver excellent client service and manage and deliver discrete pieces of legal work.

Make an effective contribution to the firm's work by aiming to meet and exceed target hours.

Build a solid foundation of commercial and legal expertise in competition, regulation and trade law, and strengthen relationships with clients, frequently acting as a direct point of contact.

Be responsible for some management and delegation of work to and support of junior colleagues.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

Qualified legal practitioner in a common law or EU jurisdiction;

4-8 years' of post qualification experience gained from private practice or work at a relevant regulator;

In-depth experience in competition and and regulatory law, ideally in both advisory and contentious work;

An excellent academic record, strong communication skills and a high level of attention to detail are also required to be effective in this role.

An ability to work to tight timeframes, collaboratively and at times autonomously.

Experience in developing client and industry relationships.

Self-motivation, willingness and enthusiasm to challenge yourself.

Fluent in English, Japanese language skills will be desirable (this would be a substantial advantage, but is not a requirement).
