Crucible R&D Engineer

In this exciting new role you'll lead the development of new products and processes for quartz crucibles used in single crystal silicon wafer manufacturing. In this role, you'll collaborate closely with technology and operations teams to drive research initiatives from concept to commercialization.

Responsibilities

• Understand internal design and manufacturing constraints and their impact on customer requirements.
• Partner with Customer Support to uncover customer pain points and generate solutions through crucible technology.
• Identify opportunities to improve productivity and quality in internal manufacturing processes using scientific analysis.
• Launch and manage R&D projects, plan and execute experiments, and coordinate with relevant departments to bring innovations to mass production.
• Conduct intellectual property (IP) analysis and contribute to the creation of new IP.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Material Science or Applied Physics.
• 5+ years' experience in new product or new process development.
• Proficient in statistical design and analysis of experimental data including design of experiment, hypothesis testing.
• Proven ability to collaborate with manufacturing, supplier, and customer to accomplish project objectives on time and within budget.
• Fluency in Japanese. English writing and reading skill.

Preferred Qualifications

• Semi-conductor material processing background or knowledge, particularly in silicon wafer manufacturing process
• Project management experience, effectively planning and prioritizing deliverables in a cross-functional, global environment
• Ability to managing customer projects, clearly and independently, facilitating quoting, design and manufacturing aspects
• Experience in new product development using Stage-Gate process

Key Relationships

• Sales, Plant Manufacturing and Plant Quality divisions inside Crucibles Business Unit.

Travel Requirements

• 10-20%

• Working Location: Oguni Town, Yamagata Prefecture, Japan
• Working Hours: 8:20-17:20 (60 minutes break)
