IDC is looking for a Research Manager to lead the consumer device team in Japan.
In this role, he/she will have the opportunity to work on several of IDC's device programs, including personal computing devices as well as other areas.
The candidate will be responsible for fieldwork interviews, analyzing data, and providing actionable recommendations to customers, including presentations and custom projects.
The candidate should demonstrate the ability to ask inquisitive questions, interpret complex data from both quantitative and qualitative sources, and have strong verbal communication skills to deliver meaningful insights to customers.
Responsibilitiesl Conduct primary research to gather data on consumer devices sales trends while developing a network of industry contacts
l Evaluate competitive positioning in the industry and anticipate future trends and consumer behavior
l Prepare detailed reports and presentations to communicate findings to stakeholders
l Ensure the timely and accurate delivery of all program deliverables
l Manage a small team of junior employees including goal-setting, coaching, and performance management
l Engage in marketing activities including media engagements where appropriate
l Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop customized market models
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in finance/economics, statistics, or engineering with a strong understanding of economic principles and their application to market analysis
8-10 years of work experience, preferably in the market research or technology industry. Experience or interest in the devices sector is a bonus.
Strong Japanese written and verbal communication skills, preferably with presentation experience. Fluency in English is also required for internal communications and coordination
Capable of conducting primary research, particularly in-person interviews and an ability to build relationships over time
Skilled in analyzing datasets with attention to detail in analysis and report preparation. Efficient in managing multiple research projects, meeting deadlines, and problem-solving while working in a team-based environment.
Good communication skills for both internal and external. Coaching abilities to develop the skills of junior analysts
Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills required
Hybrid work model with occasional travel
