PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Pipeline Medical Science Leads play a crucial role in the affiliate medical department. These field-based positions focus on interacting with and supporting investigators involved in enterprise critical studies. Pipeline MSLs aim to share information and foster scientific discussions about AbbVie's investigational products in a solely scientific, non-promotional manner, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and internal policies.

They contribute to enhancing the Company's scientific reputation by engaging with established and emerging clinical investigators and scientific institutions, supporting scientific exchanges, and collaborating closely with Clinical Site Monitoring (CSM) staff. Additionally, they work alongside various members of the medical department, maintaining a high level of scientific expertise for credible communication with external stakeholders.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establish a strong medical and scientific presence at investigational sites and scientific centers
  • Maintain close relationships with CSM staff to support AbbVie-led clinical trials
  • Provide scientific leadership to build professional relationships with investigators
  • Collaborate with medical professionals to refer patients to Clinical Trial sites
  • Engage with thought leaders for investigator-initiated study ideas
  • Deliver informative presentations on scientific topics related to AbbVie's pipeline
  • Participate in selecting external experts for research collaborations
  • Identify opportunities for research collaborations with key institutions
  • Facilitate medical field intelligence and communicate findings within the Company
  • Attend relevant scientific meetings and conferences
  • Provide insights on clinical practice and support future clinical development programs
  • Ensure all activities comply with relevant laws, regulations, and guidelines

ACCOUNTABILITY & SCOPE:

  • Offer scientific input to local AbbVie study teams and external investigators
  • Adhere to all applicable laws, regulations, and company standards
  • Develop collaborative relationships with investigators and thought leaders across multiple therapeutic areas
  • Specialize in therapeutic areas including Eye Care, Neuroscience, and Infectious Diseases

INTERNAL / EXTERNAL CONTACTS AND INTERACTIONS:

  • Collaborate with various affiliate medical personnel and teams
  • Engage with market access, brand teams, and government affairs
  • Interact with global medical information, regulatory, and legal teams
  • Communicate with healthcare professionals, research investigators, and institutions

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Advanced degree in a relevant scientific discipline preferred
  • Experience in medical research and related roles
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical environment and Medical Affairs role
  • Expertise in scientific methods and regulatory controls
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Customer-oriented with commitment to compliance and scientific integrity
