Tedako Child Development Center (CDC)

The CDC opened on OIST campus in 2013 with the goal of developing an educational environment for the children of all OIST staff and students.

The CDC is a Ninka-Gai Hoikuen, we aim to provide high-quality childcare and early childhood education for children aged 0-6 years old in a bilingual (English and Japanese) environment.

Our Bi-Lingual Environment
Currently, the CDC holds about 160 children aged 0-6 years old who come from countries all over the world.

To support the diverse needs of the children being raised in Japan, our communication with children is Bi-lingual (English and Japanese) in our Partial Immersion Program.

Daily activities are divided into morning and afternoon sessions, and the language of communication is balanced between native level English and Japanese speaking Classroom Staff to support the efficient acquisition of both languages.

Each classroom with children over the age of 1 has one classroom staff dedicated to speak English and at least one Japanese speaking classroom staff.

Classroom staff only interact with the children in one language and additional support staff are assigned to the classroom depending on needs of the classroom and staff to child ratio requirements.

CDCは、すべてのOIST職員と学生の子どもたちの教育環境開発を目指し、2013年にOISTキャンパス内に開園しました。CDCは、世界中から集まった職員と学生により構成されるOSITコミュニティ独自の保育・教育ニーズに応えるため、0〜6歳の子ども向けの質の高い保育および幼児教育を日英バイリンガル(英語と日本語)にて提供しています。

バイリンガル環境について
現在、CDCでは世界各国から来た0歳から6歳までの約160名の子どもたちが在籍しています。日本で育つ子どもたちの多様なニーズに応えるため、CDCでは設立当初から現在に至るまで一貫して二言語同時学習イマ―ジョンと呼ばれる教育プログラムを採用しており、日々の活動を午前と午後に分け、教育・学習に用いる言語を日本語と英語で切り替えることで園児の日英両言語の効率的な習得を支援しています。各クラスには、日本語および英語専門のスタッフが配属され、それぞれが担当している言語のみを用いて園児と関ります。クラスルームスタッフは子どもとたちとのやり取りを1言語のみで行い、教室のニーズやスタフ対園児数に応じて、追加のサポートスタッフが割り当てられます。
