We're looking for an Art Director / Creative Lead in Tokyo to lead our client's visual development of creative campaigns, ensuring high-quality design output that aligns with client objectives and brand identity.

This role requires a blend of creative vision, leadership, and hands-on design expertise, with some experience in Financial Services a huge plus.

This is a unique role that serves a very high-profile client in the heart of Tokyo.

Key Responsibilities

  • Creative Leadership:
    Develop and oversee the visual direction for advertising campaigns, branding projects, and digital content, ensuring consistency and excellence across all deliverables.
  • Concept Development:
    Collaborate with copywriters, strategists, and creative teams to conceptualize and execute innovative ideas that resonate with target audiences.
  • Design Execution:
    Create high-quality visual assets, including layouts, storyboards, mood boards, and final designs for print, digital, and social media platforms.
  • Client Collaboration:
    Present creative concepts to clients, incorporating feedback while maintaining the integrity of the creative vision.
  • Team Management:
    Mentor and guide junior designers, providing constructive feedback to elevate team performance and foster a collaborative creative environment.
  • Digital Integration:
    Work closely with developers to ensure seamless integration of visual designs into digital platforms, leveraging basic full-stack knowledge (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, etc.) to bridge creative and technical workflows.
  • Cultural Relevance:
    Stay attuned to Tokyo's design trends, pop culture, and consumer behavior to create campaigns that are locally impactful and globally relevant.
  • Project Management:
    Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines, budgets, and client expectations are met without compromising quality.

Experience:

  • 7+ years of experience in an agency environment as an Art Director or Senior Designer.
  • Proven track record of leading creative campaigns across print, digital, and social media.
  • Expertise in designing within brand guidelines across diverse projects.
  • Deep experience in integrated digital and print campaigns, with general skills in motion graphics and video production.
  • Success working in collaborative, multi-functional teams across global time zones and technologies.
  • Experience in multicultural and global team environments is a plus.
  • Strong ability to understand and apply specific brand guidelines effectively.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), Sketch, and Figma; experience with After Effects and Premiere Pro is a bonus.
  • Fluency in Japanese and English is required.
