きっかけはマイホームへの憧れ
――アイダ設計に入社した理由を教えてください。
高校時代、測量を専門的に勉強していました。測量は建設工事を行う土地を正確に測る大切な仕事なんですが、勉強するうちに「いずれは自分の土地と戸建て住宅を持ちたい」というマイホームへの思いが強くなっていったんです。そこから、住宅に関連する仕事がしたいと思うようになり、見つけたのがアイダ設計でした。
実は当時、高校のOBの方がアイダ設計で建設部の部長を務めていたんです。高校卒業からの入社でもアイダ設計なら、自分次第でしっかり会社に貢献し、活躍できるんだなと思い、入社を決めました。
――現在どのような仕事をしていますか?
群馬エリアの管理責任者を務めています。現場監督と30人くらいの職人さんからなる、それぞれの現場をまとめて、エリア全体の管理をする仕事です。主に、お客様が住みたい日程に間に合うよう施工を進行するための、準備や調整、設営など管理全般を行っています。
たとえば、現場の進行が遅れてお客様を不安にさせないよう、作業予定の日に職人さんを手配したり、現場の安全を守るために、職人さんを集めて事故の事例を共有する会議を行ったりしています。また、現場は基本的にそれぞれの現場監督が担当していますが、初めの顔合わせや最後の引き渡しの際には、私も直接お客様にお会いすることもあります。
――数ある部署のなかで建設部を選んだ理由はなんですか?
初めから建設部にいたわけではありません。入社当時は、高校で勉強をしていた経験を活かし、開発部で測量の仕事をしていました。それから2年ほど経ったころ、入社のきっかけとなった先輩が、同じ高校のよしみで「建設部で現場監督の仕事をやってみないか」と声をかけてくださったんです。
建設部は「家づくりの最後の要」になる重要な部署だと認識していたので、嬉しさと同時に「二十歳そこそこの自分にできるのか」という不安もありました。しかし、もともと住宅を極めたいと思って入社したので、やらないという選択肢はありませんでした。いま思うと「現場監督」という響きがかっこいいと感じたことも、挑戦した理由の一つかもしれませんが(笑)。
「100点で当たり前」の期待に応える難しさ
――どんな場面でやりがいを感じますか?
お客様にとって住宅は、良いものが予定通りできあがって当たり前のものです。しかし、職人一人ひとりが手作りしているものなので、100点満点をとることは実はとても難しいのです。そんななかでも、お客様から「ありがとうございます」と言っていただけたり、本当に嬉しそうにお子さまと部屋割りについて話し合われる姿を見たりすると、やりがいや達成感を感じますね。
住宅の仕事はお客様ありき。お客様が住宅を購入される際には「一生に一度の買い物」という想いが根底にあるはずです。そんなお客様の想いに応え、一生ものの価値を提供するのが私たちの仕事だと思います。
――自分自身の成長を実感したエピソードがあれば教えてください。
印象に残っているのは、以前東北エリアを担当したときのことです。
現在私はエリア全体の管理をしていて、それぞれの現場は各現場監督が担当しています。しかし、東北エリアを担当した当時は、全体の管理から現場監督まで一人で担わなければいけない状況でした。責任もプレッシャーもある立場でしたが、周りの人たちの力も借りつつなんとか遂行することができました。あのときの経験は今でも活きているなと感じます。
――建設部ではどんな人が活躍できると思いますか?
建設部でいうと、専門的な知識の有無よりも、コミュニケーションが上手く取れるかどうかが重要だと感じます。これは私自身、知識がないなかで開発部から建設部へ異動になって、仕事をやりながら覚えていったという実体験からくる印象です。
建設現場には、大工や左官、足場屋の方などの多様な職人さんが集まっています。毎回同じメンバーということはなく、現場によって人の組み合わせもさまざまなので、臨機応変にコミュニケーションを取り、信頼関係を築ける人は活躍していけるでしょう。
――会社の好きなところを教えてください。
人数が多い会社でありながらも、コミュニケーションが円滑に取れているところがいいなと思います。忘年会以外に親睦会なども定期的に開かれていて、そこで普段関わらない部署の人とも接することができるのが嬉しいです。
人については、建設本部の方々を尊敬しています。もともと私が建設部に異動したときに現場のことを教えてくださった方たちだから、という理由もありますが、何より「向いている方向が同じ」という点が大きいです。とにかくお客様第一で、「現場はすべて自分の家だと思って作業や清掃に当たらなければいけない」ということを常に言われてきました。私もそういった精神を、しっかり後輩たちに伝えていきたいと思っています。
人を育てより多くの方に住宅を提供していきたい
――今、仕事において課題に感じていることはなんですか?
課題は、上に立てる人材が不足していることです。現在、沖縄から始まって九州、大阪、京都……とどんどんエリアを拡大しています。新たに進出したエリアには、経験を積み、部下を育てられる社員がリーダーとして必要なのですが、まだまだ足りていません。各エリアを仕切ることができる人間を育てていくことが目下の課題ですね。
――課題を乗り越えるために努力していることがあれば教えてください。
日頃のコミュニケーションを大事にしています。上に立つ人材になるまでにはある程度年数がかかるので、モチベーションを維持して働き続けられるように、自分一人で考えこまず、悩みを気軽に相談できるような空気づくりを心がけています。
半期に一度は会社から支給された親睦会費でみんなで飲みに行ったり、希望者でキャンプやスキーへ行ったりして、話しやすく相談しやすいチームづくりに努めています。
――森さんはこれからどんな未来を設計(BUILD A LIFE)したいですか?
会社としては、より良いものをより安く、より多くの方に提供していきたいです。アイダ設計はこれまで木造住宅を中心に手がけてきましたが、これからは鉄筋コンクリート造で規模の大きな住宅も販売していく、という話も挙がっています。今後より一層多くの方に価値をお届けできるのではないかと思います。
個人としては、お客様第一の精神を徹底する部長陣にならって、もっと経験を積んで勉強していきたいです。そして、俯瞰した目線をもってさらに会社に貢献できるよう成長していきたいと考えています。
