A growing technology venture in Japan is hiring a
Research Engineer
to drive applied research and turn cutting-edge ideas into real, production-ready systems. This role sits at the intersection of engineering and research — ideal for someone who enjoys experimentation, rapid prototyping, and solving complex technical problems with meaningful real-world impact.
What You'll Do
- Explore and evaluate new technologies, algorithms, and architectures
- Build prototypes and proof-of-concepts to validate research directions
- Translate research findings into scalable, maintainable systems
- Collaborate with software engineers, product teams, and domain experts
- Analyze performance bottlenecks and propose measurable improvements
- Document findings and share insights to influence long-term technical roadmap
What We're Looking For
- Strong software engineering fundamentals (Python, Go, or similar)
- Experience with research-oriented development: prototyping, modeling, or algorithm design
- Ability to evaluate technical tradeoffs using data, experiments, and metrics
- Curiosity, problem-solving mindset, and comfort with ambiguity
Experience in at least one of the following is a plus:
ML/AI model experimentation
- Simulation or complex system modeling
- Distributed systems or cloud infrastructure
- Data analysis and tooling
- Business-level English; Japanese welcome
