Research field:
Material research by using neutron scattering

Research theme

Promotion of polymer materials research based on small-angle neutron scattering

(Summary)

The Materials Science Research Center (MSRC), Nuclear Science Research Institute (NSRI), promotes the development, upgrading and maintenance of neutron scattering spectrometers (diffractometers, small-angle scattering instruments, imaging instruments, etc.) for the Japan Research Reactor (JRR-3) owned by JAEA.

We promote various advanced material science research to contribute to the social implementation of the research achievements obtained from these instruments.

The successful applicant will engage in research and development aimed at advancing structural analysis techniques using neutron facilities, as well as other quantum beam facilities operated by JAEA, and conduct materials research utilizing these facilities.

In particular, the applicant is expected to participate in the construction of a new small-angle scattering instrument (SANS) and to lead the development, maintenance, and user support of SANS instruments, and to collaborate with academic and industrial users—primarily in the field of polymer materials—to promote research contributing (ubiquitously) to the diversification of nuclear energy utilization.
