My client is a Tokyo-headquartered financial services company specializing in foreign exchange trading services, financial systems development & technical support, cryptocurrency business, etc.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the finance and accounting team as both a hands-on contributor and a leader.
• Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing; report to the parent company (IFRS
/ Japanese GAAP).
• Establish and operate accounting processes specific to crypto-asset exchange businesses
(e.g., segregation of crypto assets, accounting for staking revenue, lending fees, etc.).
• Build and maintain interfaces between big-data / trading platforms and accounting systems
to record trades, deposits, withdrawals, and P/L movements.
• Prepare and maintain SOPs, workflows, and policies to ensure compliance with the FSA and
JVCEA requirements.
• Support the preparation of regulatory reports for the FSA, JVCEA, and other relevant
authorities.
• Liaise with external auditors, tax advisors, and other regulatory bodies; prepare audit
materials and respond to inquiries.
• Manage relationships with banks and oversee daily payment operations (e.g., account
opening, transfers, checks, cash).
• Track all payments and expenditures, including payroll, purchase orders, invoices, and
statements, while streamlining and improving existing processes.
• Reconcile processed work by verifying entries and comparing system reports to balances.
• Respond to vendor and internal inquiries on finance-related matters and draft solutions for
internal review and approval.
• Prepare analyses of accounts and produce monthly and ad-hoc reports.
• Provide financial materials and reporting for overseas shareholders in English.
• Improve and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and workflows.
• Undertake other finance-related duties as required.
Required Qualifications
• 5+ years of end-to-end finance and accounting experience (bookkeeping, AP/AR, closing).
• Experience in monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing.
• Strong understanding of Japan's corporate requirements, including corporate tax, VAT, and
audit.
• Team management experience (small teams acceptable).
• Native-level Japanese and business-level English (spoken and written).
• Proficiency in MS Office and Oracle NetSuite.
• Comprehensive knowledge of the FSA's requirements.
• Strong ability to calculate, post, and manage accounting figures and financial records with
high accuracy and attention to detail.
• Hands-on experience with spreadsheets and accounting software.
• Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting, with a recognized professional accounting
qualification (e.g., CPA, tax accountant).
Preferred Qualifications
• Accounting experience in the financial services or crypto-asset industry.
• Background in a brokerage house or cryptocurrency exchange.
• Prior experience in a Big 4 accounting firm.
• Experience dealing with regulators and preparing regulatory submissions.
• Experience handling multi-currency environments.
• Experience with IFRS and global consolidated financial reporting.
• Knowledge of internal controls and J-SOX compliance.
• Practical experience implementing and operating accounting systems.Ideal Candidate Profile
