Role Overview
The Head of Payment Operations, Japan will oversee the end-to-end operational function supporting institutional payments. This role ensures efficient transaction processing, operational compliance, and client satisfaction across Japan operations. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with internal teams such as Compliance, Finance, Product, and Technology, while acting as a local point of contact for key clients and external partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the local operational lead for Japan, overseeing daily BAU activities including onboarding, payment processing, reconciliation, and KYC.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders (Compliance, Customer Service, Product, and Technology) to support smooth transaction execution.
- Onboard new institutional, SME, and enterprise clients onto the platform and ensure a seamless transition.
- Act as the main point of contact for Japanese clients, resolving operational and service-related issues in collaboration with technology and product teams.
- Reconcile incoming funds with corresponding transactions, maintaining appropriate wallet balances.
- Collaborate with Reconciliation and Finance teams to resolve accounting-related queries and ensure accurate records.
- Drive continuous process improvement, automation, and operational efficiency initiatives in partnership with Product and Technology teams.
- Manage relationships with external vendors, financial institutions, and local partners.
- Support new product launches and operational changes, ensuring readiness and compliance.
- Assist Compliance with regulatory engagements, remediation initiatives, and board-level reporting requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and 10+ years of experience in operations, including at least 4–6 years in payment processing or related areas.
- Background in banking, fintech, or funds transfer services (資金移動業) strongly preferred.
- Native-level Japanese and business-level English proficiency.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Proven experience managing cross-functional collaboration and multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities to effectively interact with clients and internal stakeholders.
- Customer-centric, proactive, and adaptable mindset with the ability to work independently.
- Demonstrated leadership and organizational capabilities, with a focus on operational excellence and team development.
- Continuous improvement orientation with an interest in process optimization and automation.
